šµSharing my financial journey & helping you start yours š©š½āš»Author, Blogger, and Money Coach š°Paying off $154k of debt as a newlywed šUpstate SC
Letās keep it realā¦ A LOT of the people I work with have debt. But my goal is not just to help people pay off debt. My goal is to help you create habits, implement proven strategies, and finally have a realistic plan that works for YOU. Your lifestyle. Your goals. This current season of life AND future seasons. Because listen, the debt WILL get paid off (and yes I can help with that). But I also want you to be able to live your life, save for the future goals, build generational wealth, and be truly HAPPY with your life. Whatever your financial situation is... if you feel like you make good money but have no idea where it is going if you feel like you should be further ahead but youāre just stuck Iāve got youš«¶š½ You are NOT broken. You are NOT the one person that canāt get ahead with money. You are NOT the one person this wonāt work for. Truth is, most strategies that are taught are outdated and shame-based. So stop blaming yourself for not knowing exactly what to do. It is freaking HARD to break the cycle and create a realistic plan that actually works but Iāve got you. āØ Comment or DM me āFORMā and I will send you a short form to fill out (takes 2 minutes). I will send you an email with what coaching or course option I think is best for you based on YOUR situation and money goals. Yes you can absolutely figure it out on your own. You donāt need to work with me. But if you want the accountability, support, and education of how to break the cycle and finally see the progress youāve been dying forā¦ youāre in the right placeš«¶š½ Also doesnāt this remix just make you want to dance?!
What do you think? I will NEVER be someone who cooks every meal 7 days a week. 1. I like takeout 2. I donāt have the time So instead of going from one extreme to the other (trying to force myself to cook every night for a month which will then just make me want to eat out every meal)ā¦ I find balance. My goal is to cook/eat what we have at home Monday-Thursday Friday-Sunday we get takeout. Or sometimes eat things around the house. Or sometimes go on a date night. Or eat snacks as a meal. This works for me. Itās manageable. I can adjust it as needed but it feels easy to me. Stop over complicating things. Just because some influencer cooks 7 days a week doesnāt mean you have to. You totally can (good for you!) but that doesnāt work for my life. My budget reflects groceries and takeout. Every month. And Iām way more likely to stick to my budget with this system. If you need help creating a realistic plan you can stick to (not just for your food budget but all your money goals), we do that and more in Flourish FinanciALLI. Do you cook every night? ā¬ļø
Letās just stop. Money conversations can be awkward, long, stressful especially if youāre trying to talk right after a busy day of work, kids, life. Youāre tired, frustratedā¦the LAST thing you want to talk about is how youāre overspending (because you already know) AND how your car is making a weird noise (because you know you have no way to pay for it right now). So letās stop the forced money conversations. Letās be honest, they are never super productive. Talking about money doesnāt have to be some super formal process like āhello sir, letās sit at the kitchen table and chat about our debt numbers and look at 25 different chartsā. You can talk about money like āhey lover, anything coming up in the next few months that I need to add to the budget?ā or āOMG we are $200 away from our savings goal!ā or ā wow weāve been spending A LOT lately, I think we need to take a look and see how we can try to reign it in next month so we can really stay on trackā. ā£ā āØKeep it conversational.āØ If you need formal check-ins, great but set aside time. Ideally not at 7pm when youāre trying to do dinner, bath, and bed. ā”ļøBy keeping it conversational, creating a realistic plan that worked for BOTH of us, and opening up communicationā¦we were able to pay off $154k of debt, buy our 25 acre farm, go on trips, and go fishing (jk that is just Joe). I get it. Those first few conversations are TOUGH. But that is why I created Money & Marriage. To walk you through exactly what to say and do to get on the same page with your finances. If you struggle with money conversations or even how the heck to get on the same page, you need my course Money & Marriage. šµComment āMARRIAGEā and I will send you the details. Do you have formal budget meetings? What works for you?ā¬ļø
No spend months are NOT the answer. Hereās why....ā£ā ā£ā Need help with sustainable tips that donāt involve deprivation? Comment āFOUNDATIONSā and Iāll send you the link to my free course! ā£ā For 99.9% of the people I work with (Iāve reviewed probably 1000+ budgets at this point)....any deprivation based budgeting or no spend months do NOT work in the long run.ā£ā ā£ā Yes, maybe temporarily you save some money or reduce expenses but you havenāt actually changed your habits. ā£ You get stuck in the cycle of cutting everything then buying everything right after. You have to do a few no spend months a year to see any āresultā and thatās not sustainableš¬ You will spend money for the REST of your life. So you NEED to learn how to spend intentionally (which is what youāll learn when we work together š«¶š½) ā£ā š¢Ready to focus on value based spending instead of cutting everything? Comment āFOUNDATIONSā and Iāll send you the details for my free foundations course. Over 1000 people have taken this course and the results are š„ What are your thoughts on no spend months? ā¬ļø
But seriouslyā¦ I am definitely @gamecockfb ās top fan (at least top 20) If you meet me at a bar thereās a 99.9% chance Iāll ask you about college football and if youāre like āI donāt watchā our convo is most likely overš¬ Football season tickets was the ONE thing I would not give up while paying off $154k of debt. Was it a true need? No but pretty dang close. Every Saturday we drove to cola. Tailgated with my sisters and friends. And cheered on the gamecocks whether we won or lost (def most losing than Iād like but still love them) It is an experience. My home away from home. People said I was dumb to spend money on football games when paying off debt but listen, the debt got paid off and I got to go to my games sooo seems pretty ideal to me. Life is wayyyy too short to put everything on pause while paying off debt. Yes you need a debt payoff plan but your debt doesnāt define you. Yes you need to spend intentionally but if it takes you an extra few months to pay off debt so you can go on a trip or cross something off your bucket list, I say do it. You need to learn how to pay off debt, save, AND spend at the same time and thatās what Iāve helped hundreds of people do through my coaching programs. āØ Comment or DM me āFORMā and I will send you a short form to fill out (takes 2 minutes). I will send you an email with what coaching or course option I think is best for you based on YOUR situation and money goals. Ā PS: I recommend filling out the form ASAP because spots are limited (like very limited). Whatās something you spend on (or spent on) while paying off debt that was a want (but kinda a need)?ā¬ļø
Itās a need not a want. ā”ļøSend this to your BFF now so you can start planning Yes a beach trip or long weekend away would be nice but donāt sleep on staycations. āØGet a hotel for the night (bonus points if itās free from travel rewards) š®Get takeout from your favorite restaurant (aka @cantina76) š Get out of leggings & a tshirt and put on a dress from the back of your closet šµ Find a bar that plays 2000s hip-hop and rap so you can lose your voice singing all night. Donāt forget to pack your electrolytes for after š Life is way too short to not be living it exactly how you want. Dream big. Reaallly big. Donāt settle for anything else š«¶š½ Ready to spend more time doing what you love and less time stressed AF about money? Iāve got you. Comment or DM me āFORMā and Iāll send you a short form to fill out so we can decide the best way for me to work with you. Itās time for YOU to make yourself and your goals a priority.
Letās be clear ā¬ļø Contrary to what many people thinkā¦ ā I didnāt reach my money goals overnight. Most of my big goals took YEARS. ā I donāt have complicated spreadsheets and systems (even though I have my MBA in Finance my strategies and templates are SO simple). ā My budget is NOT perfect. Anyone who tells you their budget is perfect is LYING. ā I NEVER completely deprived myself while paying off debt (yes I still got my Starbucks latte & prickly pear margaritas and the world did not end) Because hereās the thing. EVERY JOURNEY IS DIFFERENT. It takes TIME, EFFORT, and a REALISTIC plan to pay off debt (or save or whatever your big money goal is). There are SO many factors that go into reaching big money goals (cost of living, income, other expenses, total debt, number of people in your family, etc.) It took me 5 years to get to where I am today. Lots of mock budgets so I could manage multiple goals at the same time. Lots of planning, stategy, and pushing forward even when I didnāt want to. What I CAN do, is teach you everything Iāve learned along the way. First, make sure youāre following me @financiallifocused (promise you donāt want to miss a thing) Then comment āFOUNDATIONSā and Iāll send you all the details for my FREE financial foundations course so you can get started TODAY. Because listenā¦you CAN pay off that credit card debt, spend money WHILE saving and paying off debt, and finally get ahead. Here for you. Always ā¤ļø
What if today you decided to believe this is possible for you?Ā You get to spend your weekends at football games or at the park with your kids, or hosting your neighbors for a cookout instead of worrying about your card being declined or how youāre going to pay for that car repair. You CAN pay off that credit card, save for the beach trip, and still get drinks with friends. You get to do it all.Ā How would you think and act differently? Why not start today? āØ Keep going āØKeep showing up āØKeep believing in more You donāt not have to give up your Friday pizza night or weekly latte to become debt free (and honestly you shouldnāt listen to anyone who says you have to) There is nothing wrong with wanting more. šµMore money. ā° More time. āļø More experiences. šļø Even more clothes, home decor, or other material things that make you smile. Future you is already so proud (and so am I)Ā š«¶š½ What is one of your BIG dream goals?

Hereās the truth ā¬ļø āØSorry but depriving is NOT the answer around here. I wouldāve been freaking MISERABLE when paying off $154k of debt if I cut everything and ONLY focused on debt payoff. I wouldāve missed out on family beach trips.Ā Girls trips to Nashville. Date nights.Ā Wouldnāt have reached $100k invested before 29. Would not be in our forever home (a 25 acre farm). Listen, paying off debt IS important. Totally. Not only does debt cause a lot of stress and overwhelm but it freaking SUCKS to owe someone money (especially huge corporations like credit card companies who screw you over with insane interest rates). But it is NOT the only important thing. If it takes you a little bit longer to pay off debt while you are saving, investing, and spendingā¦I promise you will be MUCH happier and more prepared for unexpected expenses. āØEspecially if you have A LOT of debt like I did. It is time for a refresh. A fresh start.Ā Whether youāve been budgeting for years or you have never created one in your life.Ā Life changes. Expenses have increased. Personal priorities have shifted. We ALL need to set aside time to refresh our finances to make sure our goals and plan are realistic and align with what we actually want right NOW. āØI teach you exactly HOW in my financial refresh workshop.Ā ā”ļøComment āREFRESHā and I will send you the link to grab the replay now. And for reference I would NEVER tell you to give you your prickly pear margaritas on date night ;)

How do you even decide?!? Summer is coming up.Ā Ā You want to spend more time outside, days at the park, nights at concerts, and less time on your phone. ā¦.so what am I supposed to do?! Listen, you shouldnāt be spending your paycheck before it hits your account. āBut Alliā¦ I have to get groceries this week my dog has a vet appointment my friends are grabbing drinks Friday I have $10 in my account Listen, I am NOT shaming you. 95% of the people who work with me are like this before we start. So if this is YOU right now. Iāve got you. Hereās what youāre going to do: 1ļøā£ A money audit. You NEED to know where every dollar is CURRENTLY going aka youāre going to track your expenses for a month (choose a normal spending month) 2ļøā£ Budget per paycheck. If youāre like um how? Join Flourish FinanciALLI and youāll get my super simple and effective budget template, training videos, worksheets and 8 other core modules. COMMENT (or DM me) āFLOURISHā and I will send you the details so you can get started TODAY. 3ļøā£ Move around expenses if needed. Your budget should be FLEXIBLE. If you map out paycheck 1 and you have negative dollars...we have to change something. Maybe we split up your rent/mortgage, move debt payments, change due dates for bills, etc. Here is an example: If you get paid 3/1 and 3/15ā¦Your first ābudgetā would be 3/1-3/14 (aka your 3/1 paycheck has to cover ALL expenses that fall during that time frame). The GOAL is to break the credit card or overdraft cycle. Where you put groceries on your credit card but you donāt have enough money in your account to actually pay for them so you have to wait to get paid again and then you pay your credit card but now you donāt have money in your account for groceries this week ā¦.you get it. BUT weāre going to BREAK THE CYCLE. Not sure what coaching option is best for you? Comment āFORMā and youāll get a short form to fill out so I can send you a personalized video with what option or course I think is best for you based on your goals, struggles, and situationā¦Iāve got you!
not sure how much money youāre going to be bringing in month-to-month and figuring out your spending and money goals overwhelms you. Once you have established what you need to save for your one month initial emergency fund, create a budget using an average baseline of income. Thatās why, in addition to a minimum one month emergency fund, you need to get one month ahead on expenses. Once you have your minimum one month emergency fund set up and youāre working off of a baseline budget, use the leftover money from your budget, or any excess money that exceeded your baseline budget, and use that money as a buffer in your checking account.
Figure out what went wrong The first and most important step to getting back on track if you go over budget is figuring out what exactly went wrong. If you havenāt done so already, track a month of expenses to get your actual numbers ā not just your ideal budget numbers. It means that when you sit down at the end of the month to create the budget for the next month, it doesnāt mean that what you write is set in stone. For example: If you overspent in your grocery budget by $200 and you have a āPersonal Careā budget that has $200 in it, move that $200 to the grocery fund so that you are no long āover budgetā in that area.
