These @starbondadhesives sanding discs are beyond amazing!!!! They have really allowed me to sand pieces more efficiently, saving me so much more time! They also really last— I am not spending time changing them out— I sanded a long dresser top, tall chest of drawers top and this nightstand top all with 1 disc and it still has lots of grip to it for more! In addition, I have also noticed that they never leave sanding marks, my nemesis, just an amazing bare wood ready to be stained or sealed!! Staining wood tips I use . I always stir the stain! I use oil based stains that penetrate into the wood. I use a cut up tshirt to apply! I do not typically use a pre wood conditioner unless I know it’s a wood that can take the stain blotchy. I do make sure I have wiped away all sanding dust before I apply! I apply in light even coats! I always stain in the direction of the wood grain! I use multiple coats to darken it if needed! I allow it to dry at least a few hours before applying the top coats! . I am finally finished painting the brown stucco!!! I know the former owners were trying to coordinate with the logs when they decided to go brown with the stucco foundation, but I thought black would make everything pop and modernize my new home!!!! I am simply in love with it!!! I used @sherwinwilliams exterior defense paint in tri corn black and used a roller made for cement and stucco unevenness!! . Antique singer sewing table refinished!!!! This is the first customer piece I have refinished at our new house and I am loving it! The sweet customer had intentions to refinish it with her father but he passed away and she wanted to have it refinished in his honor! So I scraped away the 2 layers of peeling veneer to reveal some gorgeous oak underneath! Then I stained the top with a combination of early American and red mahogany stains and then applied coats of poly to the top and all over the rest of the piece, since it was in good shape— it just needed a bit of love! I also cleaned the machine and base really well and painted the base black! I also added a new knob since it was missing 1 and added 2 special keepsakes in the top drawers— one about a daddy/daughter relationship and the other being a flag since the customer’s dad was a proud veteran! Patio transformation for under $350!!!! We just moved in and have 4 incredible outdoor living spaces and I knew this under whelming patio could be amazing! Here were my steps: 1. Painted the stucco with an exterior paint in tricorn black 2. Built a sofa and side table using an old twin mattress and sheet we had, some new wood and some old! 3. Refinished a vintage redwood chaise lounge chair we received from my mother in law (the first time I ever saw it 30 plus years ago it made me think of the 1970s Barbie dream house patio furniture)! 4. Added new pillow covers to existing pillows and placed an inexpensive straw camping mat on the floor! 5. Hung 2 lanterns from @aldiusa 6. Placed a few plants and accessories I already had! . Still to come…. Make the sofa a sectional by recovering an ottoman we already have and bringing the fire pit down here to also serve as a coffee table! . Easy faux wall Temporary solution to hide all of those tubes behind my basement washer and dryer!!! We just moved into another home and the laundry room is down in the basement with exposed ceiling and exposed tubing and wires! Eventually I will place cabinets above the washer and dryer and make the ceiling better but for now, this little faux wall and lots of organization make this space so much better! We are currently using our basement as a laundry room, craft room, gym and living space for teenagers and will finish it out nicely at some point— it even already has plumbing for a full bath! To make the wall, I used inexpensive and light weight backer board, some old peel and stick tiles left over from a bathroom floor at our previous home and some left over peel and stick wallpaper from a furniture makeover! I just hung it from the ceiling and have plenty of room for it not to be touching the tubes behind! I then painted the walls with dry lock paint and then did some heavy organizing of the space— even making a little snack bar for my daughters and their friends!!! . Neglected dresser becomes beautiful again!!! The client found this little dresser on marketplace and thought it would be the perfect fit for her sweet baby girl’s nursery if it just had a little bit of love! So I sanded it down entirely, applied new @minwaxusa provincial stain and layers of polycrlyic for protection! Then I added a sweet girly peel and stick paper in the drawers and those beautiful crystal knobs!!! I love how it turned out!
