  • Spring Outfits for Any Occasion

I love seeing all the flowers and trees start to bloom, and the longer days and warmer weather don’t hurt. A denim jacket is a wardrobe staple and perfect to throw on over when it’s a little cooler out. I added this straw hat with the bow detail to give sun protection and add a pretty detail to the outfit. Add in some fun espadrille sandals and you have the perfect cute but casual outfit.

Weekly Roundup — The Gold Hive

I’ve been volunteering with a local organization to help folks get vaccination appointments. so challenging to get appointments when they fill up so fast, when websites are cumbersome, or when people don’t have the time/know-how to navigate the system. If you are tech-savvy and want to help out, I encourage you to find a local organization to support - or, just post on your neighborhood Facebook group asking if anyone needs help. If you’re in San Diego and need help, fill out a form here and someone (maybe me!) will book your appointment.

A Custom Plate Rack In The Kitchen! — The Gold Hive

I don’t want a bunch of open shelving because I feel like it ends up creating surfaces that then require unnecessary things like art and plants and bowls that aren’t ever used. Yet, there’s something so nice about having everything we use frequently at arm’s reach, and I like seeing useful items to make the kitchen feel more like a lived-in humble space. The perfectly utilitarian open storage system that instantly adds charm and functionality. Note my previous renderings included open shelving by the range, but I’ve since vetoed those and will do art instead.

  • The Journey Back to My True Identity

Although science shows that it is impossible to be “transgender” (to actually change from one gender to another) because at a chromosomal level females remain XX and males remain XY, Daily Citizen was blocked from Twitter for “hate speech. Walt Heyer and Kathy Grace Duncan say a high percentage of people within the transgender community report a history of sexual and/or psychological abuse. We’re talking with Walt and Kathy Grace on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “ This program isn’t graphic, but it’s probably not suitable for younger children, so please use your discretion and occupy your kids elsewhere, or listen later on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or on our free phone app.

  • NY Times, Washington Post Attempt to Connect Massage Parlor Murders to Biblical Sexual Ethic

It’s impossible to fathom how someone in that position would carry out such evil and horror – but that hasn’t stopped both the Washington Post and The New York Times from trying to pin the blame not just on Long, but his supposed belief system. In short, reports in both papers have alluded to the 21-year-old’s self-described evangelicalism as the root of his actions, specifically a biblical sexual ethic that calls sex outside marriage sinful. Long’s ties to evangelicalism shine a light into a subculture called ‘purity culture,’ a belief among some evangelicals that promotes the idea that any sexual desire outside of marriage is lustful, and therefore sinful. Implied and insinuated in both instances is that the expectation to refrain from sexual intimacy until marriage somehow imposed a damaging and dangerous burden on Mr. Long.

  • Hiking Teens: What to Teach Your Kids About Hiking Safety

Whether you want to engage your kiddos in a family bonding outdoor experience, empower your children to be safe and knowledgeable about hiking, or you want them to help plan for your next national park adventure, this is your guide to teaching your kids about hiking preparation and safety. As a family you can create guidelines for beginners (e.g., 2 – 3 miles round trip distance and up to 300 ft. elevation gain) and/or moderately skilled day hikers (e.g., 4 – 8 miles round trip distance and up to 900 ft. elevation gain) depending on your family For example, we hiked a rather strenuous trail at Pinnacles National Park that listed 3 hours expected, but we took 4 to complete it (I’d like to say it was because we stopped to take a lot of pictures, but let’s face it we stopped because we were sucking wind. Besides simple rules like don’t play music and step aside to let others pass when you are stopped, there are a few codes of conduct that help teens know how to negotiate situations that may happen on crowded trails.
