  • Sidney, BC: The Secret Seaside Town Your Family Will Love

When my young family was looking for a new place to settle in Canada after a decade overseas, we happened upon the small seaside town of Sidney, on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. We wanted a friendly, walkable town with ample local outdoor markets and plenty of cheap or free things to do with kids like the summertime. Some of the things that make Sidney a pleasant place to live also make it a fun place to visit with kids, be it on a a weekend getaway from Vancouver city, a sidetrip from Victoria or a longer stop on a road trip round Vancouver Island. If you’re traveling with older kids and want something a little different, book one of a handful of rooms at the Latch, a woodsy boutique hotel on the water a few miles from town.

  • Exploring the Franklin Institute

12 permanent exhibits offer hands-on learning experiences that introduce and reinforce key science concepts in fun and creative ways. As an adult, it is nice to remember what we learned in science class back in Middle School, and as a child, it is fun to see them learning these concepts for the first time. The museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on the weekends, it stays open until 6 p.m. Depending on how much time you have, choose which exhibits you have to see. The permanent exhibits include The Giant Heart, Your Brain, The Train Factory, Sir Isaac’s Loft, Amazing Machine, Changing Earth, Space Command, Electricity, Tech Studio,

  • Crashing an Eagle Watching in St. Louis Tour

I didn’t realize until a lot later that day that I just crashed the Bald Eagle watching in St. Louis tour. The good thing is that many of the tour-goers had broken off at the Brussels Ferry, so for me sliding into the group wasn’t a big deal at all since it was a full-day driving tour, which I also didn’t know. Right across the Illinois River up into the tops of the trees is a Bald Eagle’s nest. • 2021 Travel Trends: What Travel Might Look Like This Spring/Summer

More People will be Taking Longer Trips With more people working remotely, people have been tacking extra days onto their weekends, turning a weekend trip into a far more leisurely week-long trip. To be close to home and emphasize social distancing, travelers will want their trips to include outdoor activities, and for those who have splurged this past year on things like boats, RVs, bikes, and camping gear, this is your year. Globally, three-quarters (74%) of travelers surveyed plan to take at least one overnight domestic leisure trip in 2021 — and an enthusiastic 80% in the U.S., where over a third of respondents (34%) are planning at least three domestic trips this year. Domestic vacations are where more people stay close to home, travel to rural areas, and stay in private accommodations like Airbnbs instead of large hotels and resorts.

  • How to Take Stunning Sunrise Photos at Marginal Way

need is a wide-angle lens for landscapes, a zoom lens for detail shots, and a graduated filter for your lens to get the slower shutter speeds to capture the water and the sunlight together. You will have one set of settings before the sun rises and and as the sun becomes more prominent you will have to adjust your settings to reduce the amount of light coming in the lens. If you happen to visit Ogunquit, I put my settings on the photos I took, so you can try to take sunrise photos at Marginal Way. • Exploring the Ogunquit Marginal Way

Walking along the rocky coastline, my camera couldn’t stop taking photos of the ocean waves crashing into the rocky coastline, watching the sailboats and surfers in the ocean, and climbing down cliffs to rocky pools of water to capture the sunset and sunrise. Along the footpath, you’ll find 39 benches located at pristine viewing spots along the path for you to search for peace, sit quietly and watch the water ebb and flow from the rocks, and see panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. I didn’t get a chance to go to the beach, but even with the fall weather, I could see that this sandy beach was busy with swimmers, bathers, and even a few die-hard surfers. Exploring Ogunquit Marginal Way was an amazing experience, and I will be following this post with another one showing how you can take photos during sunrise by the water.

  • Seattle Weekend Getaway: 15 of the Best Things To Do With Kids

Our time at Olympic National Park and Whistler had us in an outdoorsy mood and we thought it would be fun to see the city from the lake, after seeing the lake from so many different sides of the city. Had we gone to the Capitol Hill Farmers Market, south-east of the lake, we could have also visited Elliott Bay Books, and enormous bookstore with big windows, a large selection of popular books and frequent author events. Like a lot of pioneer towns, Seattle has a colorful history and, especially if you get a lively guide, this is a fun and slightly different city tour. If you’re visiting Seattle for the first time and do want to visit popular attractions like MoPop, the Space Needle, the zoo, aquarium, science center or Chihully collection, a CityPass can save you a good amount of money and let you skip the line during peak hours.
