    His richly detailed work transports you to an alternate reality where science, nature, and spirituality evolve. His distinctive personal style emanates a surreal and mysterious quality that evokes the spirit and atmosphere of another reality. A multiple award winner, Vincent was given 1st place at the Orange County Fair in the digital and mixed media categories every year from 2014-2016. At the end of 2016 he moved to Salt Lake City pursuing a better quality of life.

  • Long Beach Airport Unveils Pandemic-Inspired Art Exhibit

    The exhibition by local women artists, commissioned by a partnership between the airport and the Arts Council for Long Beach (ARTSLB), reflects uplifting and hopeful messages related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We Got This: Art in the Time of the Pandemic,” 20 pieces were chosen for display, with artists receiving a $500 honorarium for each piece selected by a panel consisting of representatives from LGB and ARTSLB. The focus on artists who are women is part of ARTSLB’S community work with LB Suffrage 100 in commemorating the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. We are so thankful to Long Beach Airport for partnering with us to commission such a timely exhibit and promote local women artists,” said Griselda Suarez, Executive Director for the Arts Council for Long Beach.

  • Arts Council for Long Beach Announces An Additional $450,000 for Artist COVID Relief

    The City of Long Beach’s Development Services Department has partnered with the Arts Council for Long Beach to deliver phase three of the Artist COVID Relief Grant. Artists must meet the following criteria to apply: ● be a member of the Arts Council registry ● meet federal low-income thresholds and be able to demonstrate with documentation or certification Applicants will be eligible for up to $3000. We will prioritize applications by income: very low-income, low-income, moderate income, previous grantees. The artist relief fund is reflective of the Arts Council’s community orientated values in which I’m proud and grateful to be a part of!” stated Samantha Reynolds, a Long Beach artist and COVID Relief grant recipient.

    Cindy is a photographer based out of Los Angeles who is looking to spark your imagination through her surreal photographs, stunning landscapes, and luminescent night photography. The mundanity of 9-5 office jobs inform her creative process as “not many people see things at night. ‘Lets go grab dinner,’ but never just to enjoy what the night brings”. ’s daily routines giving viewers a glimpse of her imagination at once inspiring their own.

  • Port PHOTO Alumni Feature: Jose Cordon

    Chance plays an important role in Jose’s work as a street photographer having him seek out the daily, ephemeral moments of life. Photojournalist jobs have set him apart from other photographers as he captures fleeting moments making sure they last forever. Not only is Jose this week’s featured alumni, he is also a featured panelist in this month’s PhotoWorks workshop, The workshop will cover various career pathways in photography as well as styles and themes present in Jose’s work while in conversation with more featured photographers.

  • Port PHOTO Alumni Feature: Aydin Tuna Palaiyikoglu

    This week we’re showcasing Aydin T. Palabiyikoglu and his work as our Port PHOTO Alumni feature! Aydin has worked as a journalist, photographer, designer and cinematographer for more than 20 years while being a father for seven years. During the past two decades, he has won numerous awards and opened several personal and joined exhibitions. Aside from photojournalism, he works as a professional stage photographer in collaboration with several symphony orchestras, ballet, theater organizations, and bands.

    Arts Council for Long Beach Spreads GRATITUDE, COURAGE and LOVE With Art Kit Giveaway Program During Black History Month

    To celebrate Black History Month, the Arts Council for Long Beach has created phase two of our Art Kits, generously sponsored by the Port of Long Beach. In efforts to reach children at home to ensure arts education for students in Long Beach, Arts Council’s Eye on Design Artist Teacher Betty Rosen consulted with NASCO to provide quality art materials packaged safely to hand out during a pandemic. In phase one of the Art Kit Giveaway the Arts Council Partnered with Mayor’s Fund for Education, Whittier Elementary, Houghton Park, Creative Flow and A Future Super Hero to distribute the kits to local communities. In phase two, the Arts Council has partnered with Habitat for Humanity,  Beach High School, and Long Beach Unified School District Leadership Academy for art kit distribution.

    Port PHOTO Alumni Feature: Annie Banks

    This week we’re featuring Long Beach resident Annie Banks one of our talented Port PHOTO Alumni who is a creative entrepreneur. Annie is an avid photographer that has a bachelors from Fresno State University and an AA in photography from Cosumnes River College in Sacramento and has been retired for several years. She was trained in traditional darkroom photography which influences her current digital photography, but uses various art mediums such as watercolor painting, tie dye, jewelry making, various crafts, and whatever medium she can use to capture beauty. We will be featuring Port PHOTO alumni from our previous cohorts via social media to show their work and tell you what they’re up to!

    Port PHOTO alumni Weldon Spurling says photography has been the medium in which he’s “viewed the world for the last 48 or so years, through marriage 6 beautiful children, two different professions, and many hospitalizations. I hope that the viewer becomes a participant and is able to tell me something about the photograph, I hope that we share something through the photo.”Showcased here are the photographs he took of the store front murals in the streets of Downtown Long Beach after the local civic uprisings.     Christine Lee Smith is an award-winning portrait photographer and educator in Southern California. In 2019, Christine was a finalist in the Taylor Wessing National Portrait Gallery award, and has exhibited her work at the Duncan Miller Gallery, Gallery 825, and the Museum of Latin American Art. She is a 2016 & 2018 Port PHOTO Alumni and was within the top three winners of the 2016 Port PHOTO juried exhibition at the Museum of Latin American Art.
