Highlights
  • An Update

I now live in West Texas 9+ months of my year, studying psychology (and Public Relations & History as minors) and am probably the happiest I’ve been in my near nineteen years of existence. This blog is becoming a space where I talk my adventures at school (ranging from job searching to exploring my college town) and review books, try new recipes and talk more. This blog was initially created for my summer session class senior year (almost two years ago! ! I am currently pursuing my Degree in Psychology while minoring in History and Public Relations.

    Week 3: Expanding Beyond

As the August term comes to a close, we focused on projects that were more reflective and fed into the academic year. This was made primarily with shapes and text, with the header and footer font being chasing embers . Yesterday and today, we worked on three other projects dealing with font, design and the future. The process for each one was similar with layers, text and color, with the movie remix poster being my least favorite to work with.

Week 2 : More Work with PS CC

We worked with the pen tool, layer masks, options such as color burn and multiply, the text tool and shapes. Each of the images below required use of layers, shapes and the radial balance (center photo) the use of the flip function to flip the parts across the square canvas. On Wednesday, we explored color theory and the use of color in art and printing (electronic and digital) with 3 color(RGB color) and 4 color (CMYK color) systems to print color images. Images like that are colored with red, green and blue while CMYK images are colored with cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black).

    Appropriation

Keeping within the theme of learning PS CC skills like yesterday, today in class we learned about appropriation in the art world. So for our class, we were asked to create a new image using a appropriated one in the process. After an extensive Google search, I found an impressionist painting by Claude Monet of his family in their garden. so I guess a new perspective on something wasn’t a complete loss on not getting what I wanted initally.

    Meet Phasma

After taking a few photos, looking at poses and creating a simple concept I made this… Meet Phasma, whose powers are primarily energy and more specifically wave manipulation. The beams from her hands dispel and reroute depending on how the energy is moving, therefore creating natural disasters if needed (earthquakes, windstorms, ultrasonic vibrations). I opened both in PS CC, and created a new layer, unlocked the bg layer, moved the new one down and began using the eraser tool to eliminate the black around it. Finally, I used the smudge tool to create the “tail streams” running towards my hands.

    Photoshop : First Time Encounters

Over the past two days in my IMED (Digital Media) class, we have learned a few basic Photoshop skills using CC 2016. Our 1st assignment was to retouch a few selfies we took in full sunlight, shade and supposed neutral lighting. The tools used specifically used were the Sponge, Healing Brush, Dodge, Blur tools along with Auto- Contrast, Color, and Tone. Afterwards, I used the Dodge and Sponge tools to brighten my background (clouds, trees, sky and road) so that the contrast didn’t seem so intense.

    My Summer

So first off, in July I went to Shiprock, New Mexico for a week on a mission trip with my church. The cars were old, yet if you look closely you see stories on them that are so multifaceted it’s charming. On the way there, you can see the “Shiprock ” which in Navajo culture is considered either a literal rock shaped like a ship, or a bird with it We ended up in the Santa Fe Plaza and considering it was a Friday night in Mid-July it was definitely not calm.
