Highlights
  • A More Inclusive Consideration

Because ecosocialism is largely concerning economic and social relations, I will discuss the currently radical idea that in order to curb the destruction of Earth’s ecosystems—driven relentlessly by capitalism–we need to seriously question and change course from our general human narrative at the very basic concept of the system that has us at this point—ownership–specifically, the ownership and commoditization of another animal beings and how it intertwines with human oppression. Scholars such as David Nibert combat the hand-in-hand, “mutual agreement” between the human species and others in his book Animal Oppression and Human Violence: Domesecration, Capitalism and Global Conflict. We may understand that capitalism requires the exploitation of the human-animal’s labor, but for many well-intended people, the consideration of the exploitation of other animals’ labor–and very lives I would like to place emphasis on “a wider social revolution” because using and relating to other animals logically falls under social relations, like human to human rather than human to tractor.

  • Natural History Museums

The Age of Human Driven Extinction, I wrote about the sixth mass extinction that we are currently in, where the extinction rate is at least 1000 times higher than what has been normal since the last great extinction and as the title suggests, is driven by we humans. A passage in Carolyn Merchant’s Major Problems in Environmental History, forever changed my perception on the emergence and status of natural history museums across the world. In a chapter about early explorers and naturalists, there is a section about John James Audubon–famous for his striking paintings of birds and a very well known society of conservation–documenting the killing frenzy that was collection and taxonomy. Without a doubt, if one cares to take seriously the family bonds and emotional lives of other animals, this so-called “suicidal” bull was outraged at the murder of his comrade, possibly his best friend.

  • What Have We Done? The Age of Human Driven Mass Extinction.

Five years ago I was in a used book store and though I cannot remember the name of the book, I flipped through its words about the sixth mass extinction and the biodiversity we are exterminating to realize that the copy written date was 1989! Koalas have been recently declared functionally extinct and the current fires in so called Australia, (claiming over a billion lives, including a few thousand koalas) will more than likely do them in for good. The World’s Most Vulnerable Animals Joel Sartore has been cultivating the largest photo library of known animal life in his project The Photo Arc. Those who have studied the data most carefully agree that human activity, which has raised the species extinction rate a thousand times over its prehuman level, threatens to extinguish or bring to the brink of extinction

  • In the Name of Peace

The Christmas “ham” will come from a miserably tortured pig, hardly 6 months old. If she lives the transportation, her ultimate destination will make sure she experiences a true “hell on earth” in her last moments, as she hears all of the ones before her scream in agony and drown in their own blood, shackled and hoisted to be dismembered. The line speeds required to keep body parts like “bacon”, “chops”, “hams”, “sausages”, and “tenderloins” accessible and ready at every turn for Western culture. Immediately upon seeing the live feed of the factory pig farm sit in, I created this piece, a tribute to the sows, boars and all their babies trapped in the hell holes we have created for them in the name of “bacon”.
