Highlights
  • Backpacking Desolation LakeSierra REC Magazine

I was reminded of what a special place desolation Lake is in the Backpacking and for some brave hikers day visit location. Desolation Lake is located over the ridge from Lake of the Woods or just up the ridge from Ropi lake in the southern section of desolation. After reaching the end of the lake i proceed west over the small ridge on the west side past Frata Lake and then down into desolation lake. Swimming is cold but incredible as the clarity of the water is spectacular and the water fall that runs down to Ropi lake is an incredible place to just hang out and listen to the wild flow.

  • Squeeze Through a Slot Canyon to Kanarraville Falls

This sweet half-day hike along the Kanarra Creek Canyon Trail through some pretty rad slot canyons to the playful Kanarraville Falls (aka Kanarra Falls) used to be somewhat of a hidden gem. While the word is out, a half day’s stop to hike to Kanarra Falls Access this hike from the small southern Utah town of Kanarraville, which happens to not be too far from Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. See the slot canyon and waterfalls in pictures, then read *

If you choose to make this a backpack adventure there also other great day hike and adventures from her as well, including: Secret Lake, Fremont lake, both great for fishing as well and a Waterfall hike behind Lane Lake. The trail starts at the Wolf Creek Horse Camp and is located 12.5 miles outside of Markleville Ca heading towards Ebbett’s pass on HWY 4, Turning off HWY 4 at Centerville Flat Disperse Camping Area 7.3 miles outside of Markleville. • Plumas National Forest Expands Recreation Opportunities and FeesSierra REC Magazine

More campsites across the Plumas National Forest within the Feather River Canyon, Bucks Lake, Lake Davis, and Lakes Basin recreation areas, will be available by reservation this year, according to Forest Supervisor Chris Carlton. Rather than close facilities, via a competitive process, the Forest Service permitted a concessionaire (Outdoors in Plumas) to operate and maintain 68 of the Forest’s 150 developed recreation sites in 2020. The Plumas National Forest will continue to operate 71 recreation sites at no cost to the public, including 10 campgrounds/camp areas. Dispersed camping & day-use opportunities are available in general forest areas where visitors may camp or enjoy day-use activities without a fee, although there may be no restrooms or services such as piped water and trash removal.

  • Exploring Slot Canyons at Mono LakeSierra REC Magazine

I have driven by Mono Lake a hundred times, even on occasions stopping at the visitors center and walking the boardwalk on the south west shores, but until recently I had never heard of a set of Slot Canyons (Fissures) that begged to be explored. We ended up walking down the sandy flat area 1/4 mile before following a ridge line up through the sand making a rock cropping of black volcanic looking rock our target destination. After completing the hike, i might suggest that is just as easy and possibly better navigation if you instead head straight up to Black Point and look west to locate the Slot canyons / Fissures. The slots / fissures in this region range from 20 feet to 50 feet into the earth with passage ways ranging from a foot to 10 feet in width.

  • Florida Bucket List For Post-Pandemic Travel

If you’re looking for inspiration for where we have visited, you’ll have to check out Sanibel Island here (a favourite of the kids), our resort review of The Island Inn here, read up on how I fell in love begrudgingly at a Walt Disney World Resort value level hotel here or how I had an amazing time hanging out with Republicans at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort here. Managed by the Forest Service, the boardwalk provides a safe and accessible area to take in the views, including this unique strand of cypress trees often referred to as Bonsai or Hat-Rack Cypress. Whether visitors are looking for a charming, historic place to retreat to, or a casual beach town to explore, the city’s neighbourhoods offer unique and diverse experiences to immerse yourself in local culture. • Bald Eaglet Safety – Temporary Campground Closure Plumas National ForestSierra REC Magazine

Nesting Eagles in Plumas National Forest Have been nesting here for 2 decades QUINCY, A section of the Wyandotte Campground in the Plumas National Forest is temporarily closed to protect a bald eagle nesting territory in the vicinity of Little Grass Valley Reservoir, 50 miles northeast of Oroville in Plumas County. The closure has been in effect for almost 2 decades and has helped a bald eagle pair to successfully nest and raise young, contributing to the sustained recovery for this species. The closure area includes the north loops of the Wyandotte Campground (accessed by Forest Service roads #22N57YA & B), on the southern section of the reservoir.
