There are certain podcasts you listen to on your commute, specific shows that work best for cleaning the house or cooking dinner, those to motivate you to work out harder at the gym, or on a run or bike ride. And we say - at least for those of us who just can help but get our hands dirty, try new things, and learn as much as possible - there should be a set to push your creativity, to accompany your work in the shop, or help your discover new things...which is the point of all this anyway, right? What I like most about this one, besides Mike Pekovich's smooth and sage-like wisdom, is that every episode serves as a simple reminder: that woodworking, like most hobbies, is simply an opportunity to do creative problem solving with a specific tool kit. Reclaimed Audio explores the world of working with existing materials, recycling, upcycling, and making something new of things you already have, or can find cheaply or for free.

The No Bullshit Way to Bake Your Own Bread Want to make no knead bread in a Dutch oven? Paleo-be-damned, I'm grateful our ancestors developed agriculture, so we could stop foraging and eat mostly bread (and also develop science, art, culture, etc.). When you're ready to bake, turn your oven to 450 degrees (convection on if you have it), and put an enameled cast-iron pot (dutch oven) inside, with the lid on. I'm not totally sure why this happens, but I think it because the crust starts to set before the boule has had time to finish springing up.

For the classier side of things (it's Mad Men's Roger Sterling's go-to), give this simple twist on the Martini a shot - Shake gin and vermouth with plenty of ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Shake lemon juice, simple syrup, and gin with ice, then pour into an iced tall glass. Shake all ingredients with ice, and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Stir ingredients with ice (don't shake), and strain into either a cocktail or rocks glass, your preference.
