I’m Brigid and I love to dream. I started my journey to here when I was really little. My grandfather taught me how to read when I was three and from then on I always had a book in my hand. I loved reading and learning from a young age.
When I was in school my teachers got me writing, and now I write whenever I can. I graduated from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with a bachelor degree in English and a minor in Business, but I realized while I was in undergraduate school that even though my dream was to write a novel, I loved working with social media and web design.
On my blog I write in hopes my writing can touch someone in some way. I write about my life, being a girl boss, loving yourself, books, writing, and some Disney.
I’m a lesbian and a little witchy, and I live with my beautiful girlfriend and our cat, Rey. I’m a strong believer in the power of rose gold and pixie dust. Glitter is my favorite color and adulting is not my strong suit, but I do it when I have to.
I was looking over the summer to upgrade my disposable razors into something more adult and I priced Dollar Shave Club, Flamingo, Billie, Harry’s, and Joy razor started kits based on what products they offered (at the time) and how much was it a value for me. I like the openness to talk about how body hair is normal and how we can feel our best in our own skin no matter what that looks like. Flamingo donates 1% of all their profits to two non-profits: Exhale to Inhale, which helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault work through their trauma through yoga; and Period which is working to fight period poverty. Nai from the LA Beautyologist has been a huge help in giving free information when let’s be honest, I’m broke.
Earlier I posted a post on ditching your New Years’ diet and why diet culture sucks and I realized my resource list was just too long for the bottom of that blog post. I decided to make a resource page that I (and you) can link back to of body-positive, fat-liberation, and anti-diet resources to get you started. Here are my own posts about stuff happening in the body positivity community or my own body love journey: Lauren Cadillac – a Manhattan-based Registered Dietitian, Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and Certified Personal Trainer.
I started following more people (especially women) in tech spaces and marketing, I followed more resources for my career and cool TikTok recruiters, I followed LGBT+ creators, and I diversified more out from my tiny books, publishing, and writing bubble. A lot of people think it’s a hunger-fullness diet, but it’s more of resetting your body to its natural state. Your body doesn’t know if you’re on a restrictive diet or starving so it goes into a survival mode that makes you store a lot of food as fat. So now that we’ve broken down why diets don’t work let’s talk about the systemic issues of diet culture.
I debated on doing a Year in Review this year because I haven’t actually blogged a lot and it’s been a crappy year overall, but I thought in an effort to start blogging more consistently and nurturing this website again We ate a lot better, took naps on our lunch breaks, and prioritized the things we could control, like really creative date nights! I didn’t win, my final word count was 21,004, but I beat my personal record and had a lot of creative epiphanies about my work in progress. I originally wanted to be a voice of reason to any young readers I may have to tell them their bodies are worthy, but when I read back I’m really proud of the points I made and how I presented them
