Hi, I'm Sarah— a New Yorker in Amsterdam eating and traveling around the world to bring you the best foodie and off the beaten path travel tips! Do you love practical travel tips, beautiful places, and delicious food too? Then let's be friends!
* watching boats on the canal sail by, * biking without the worries of getting hit by cars or people walking in your path, * getting high (ok I had to say it– it’s what it’s known for), and * dreamily walking around seeing homes covered in vines and canals lined up with lights at night. If you want to save money and come at less crowded times and don’t mind the cold and rainy weather, then November to February is a good time to come for you. * Markets and Snack Foods: less than €6 * Lunch and Fast Casual Places: less than €20 If you are on a budget, eating at markets or foods like fries and shopping at grocery stores and cooking in your Airbnb may be the best budget-savvy option. * Buy flowers for your Airbnb or hotelI know it seems kind of silly to buy flowers when you’re only here for a few days but tulips and flowers are sooo cheap, I recommend my friends and family buying a bouquet to return back to because WHY NOT.
Japan is ripe with vibrancy; the food, the landscape, and all around culture of the country make it a bucket-list worthy place to visit. Head to Ghent for food, beer, and the Ghentse Feesten – a city wide folk festival, similar to Oktoberfest in Germany. Toronto is one of the homes to Second City, a world famous improv troupe, so expect to spot an occasional comedian roaming the Downtown and Old Toronto neighborhoods. California has everything from the Mojave Desert sand dunes to the Red Wood forest, which you can tackle by car or train; On the East Coast, the beauty and lights of New York City, all the way to the beaches of sunny Florida.
When you think of California, you probably imagine big cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco. Although both are amazing places to visit, Sacramento is a great place for a staycation if you live in Northern California! Midtown is a neighborhood filled with great restaurants, amazing coffee shops, and many second-hand stores! I highly recommend the Fort Sutter Hotel, if you are looking for a great price and a beautiful stay!
Within the same building is an Etsy-like store of local artists’ goods if you want an authentic souvenir that supports the local economy instead of buying cheap probably Chinese-made goods in city center. Overall, I’d consider Oud-West and De Pijp the best areas to stay in Amsterdam because they’re away from the crowd but still close to everywhere you’ll want to go. the Dutch fries at the fries truck (these are my favorite fries in all of Amsterdam), • the hummus falafel sandwich at the hummus stand at the very end of the market by the bakery (not the first hummus stand) I just can’t go to the park without bring a ton of food; it’s a problem… I generally buy food at Albert Heijn because they have fresh, portable salads, sandwiches, and even cold-pressed smoothies for under €5, but if I plan in advance (like an hour in advance… hehe), then I’ll get hummus, bread, meats, and cheese from the Ten Kate Market.
