Hi! I'm Claire- a travel blogger with specific interests that include adventure travel, solo female travel, and healthy lifestyle tricks while traveling. I've been traveling for almost twenty years. I've gotten pretty good at packing light, so I write about travel hacks and minimalist traveling a lot. My favorite places tend to be off the beaten path, so I'm always looking for new and unique places to visit!
2018! Hard to believe it's been 3 years 😯 My favorite budget travel hack is off-season travel. It can be shockingly inexpensive. This 2-week trip to Italy was <$450 round-trip airfare from Raleigh to Rome. Whoa! How can you say no? I've been to Italy in August and I've been in January. I thought January was so much better: 👥 Fewer crowds 💰 Better prices 🌤 Decent weather Have any other good hacks?
It's happening!! I've been dreaming about this since my first trip to New Zealand 🥰 Oscar and I will officially set sail in our conversion van in Spring 2021! Right now, it's just a pile of sheet metal- a blank canvas! When it's completed, it'll be our new home on wheels! Including a kitchen, bathroom, solar power, and incredible sunset views 🌄 I've dreamed about the day I can join the vanlife tribe! Now, only about 1000 hours of custom carpentry, electrical, plumbing and some scattered snow storms stand in my way! Of course, nothing is without challenge. Just getting the van was a process. 🚙 Which van? New or used? How do you secure personal financing for a vehicle classified as commercial (not something I anticipated!), and how do you insure and register it? (Look out for new blog articles that address these soon!) I'd love to hear your best vanlife advice! 💬
When do you think you'll feel comfortable traveling again? ✈ At the start of the pandemic I thought I'd be traveling internationally again within 6 months. ⏱ How naive! Now I'm thinking even 2021 will be mostly (if not completely) domestic for me. 🚙 I've been lucky to have had some pretty big trips in the last few years, so in some ways 2020 was a nice chance to stand still and reevaluate what I want 🧘🏼♀️ ... turns out I still want to travel 😂 but its nice to know I'm lead by my heart and not just perpetual motion! 🎡 I hope you're finding some good things in all of this weirdness too 🖤 <<Travel Guide to Rome, linked in bio>>
Do you have this whole pandemic thing figured out? Yeah, me neither... 🤷🏼♀️ Since March, when things changed over night, I've proudly taken it on the chin. Saying things like "I'll get through this" and "I'm ok, I have my health, my family, and my job... it's worse for others and I know I'm lucky". But after months of managing a "new normal" I hit a wall (hard), and I needed a break from reality. I've taken the last month to spend time in my hometown, resting and reflecting on my emotions. It feels good to breath again, and to start dreaming and planning (more on that news to come!). 💫 I don't have this pandemic thing figured out. I don't have all of the answers. I'm not managing it perfectly... I probably never will. But here's what I DO know: 1️⃣ You are not perfect. It's not reasonable (or realistic) to expect perfection from yourself or those around you. We're all human and we're all going through this for the first time. 2️⃣ Your feelings are valid. What you feel is not relative to others. Your hardship is your hardship regardless of whether others have it 'worse'. You can be compassionate for your neighbors AND still feel overwhelmed/stressed/sad/uninspired/tired/etc. 🖤
If those two things don’t float your boat then I’d recommend skipping the extra 1-hour transport and staying in Cairns, where there’s more to do. If you are uncertified you’ll take a quick crash course prior to diving in, and you’ll be in small groups with your master diver who will keep an eye on you and not let you wander too far. it’s likely that you’ll only be able to participate in some of the dives (ie, if there are 3 dives scheduled that day, you might only be able to go on 2 dives If you’re interested in spotting the wildlife from a safe distance (there’s more things in Australia that can kill you than I’d like to think about) this sunrise cruise is a great chance to see the local species.
Can you name this storybook character? 🌟 This is one of my favorite places in London 💖 It's nestled away from the city sounds and attracts so many children and young families. 👨👩👧👦 It's fun to watch them recognize the characters. What's your favorite spot in London? <<London Travel Guide, linked in bio>>
What was your favorite book growing up? I loved the Secret Garden. Every ivy covered wall fascinated me, and I inspected it for a secret door. I was convinced that if I looked hard enough I would find my own entrance to a secret, forgotten place. 📍 Trellis at Christopher Columbus park <<5 Best Instagrammable Spots in Boston, linked in bio>>
This smile is fake. I'm actually terrified 😂 Swipe to see why ➡️ Every amazing moment I've had followed a moment like this one: ▫️ "Fake it until you make it" smile plastered on my face 😁 ▫️ Invisible butterfies attacking me 🦋 ▫️ A thousand "what if" questions running through my mind. 🤯 And then you do the thing, and it's amazing. And you want to do it again. My point is just do the thing, even if it's scary. They're the best things to do ❣ What's your favorite scary/amazing moment? <<New Zealand Travel Guide linked in bio>>
Meet Maggie the wombat! She had a rough start to life and was orphaned very young, but some awesome humans saved her and are helping her learn to be independent. Things feel so negative and ugly lately, but I like to believe that MOST people are good, they're just a lot quieter and harder to see than the handful of loud voices dominating media lately.
Do you know what I love about Paris? Just about everything. Let's be real 😂 But I LOVE walking around Parisian streets. Just wandering. Finding hidden gems you weren't looking for (and there are SO many of them!). Not having an agenda, or any place to be. Real life feels like it gets faster and faster every year. Paris reminds me to slow down and enjoy the little details. What do you love about Paris?
Things do not change; we change. -Henry David Thoreau 🌟 Every time I return home from travel something in me feels different. Nothing about home has changed, I'm just different. 💚 I think the thing that always strikes me most post-travel is how much my perspective has shifted. I find myself being less stressed about the small things. Travel gives me a renewed view of the world and makes me feel small in really big (and positive) ways. 🌍 Does anything change for you? <<An Ultimate List of the Best Travel Quotes, linked in bio>>
