How to Display and Sell Vintage & Antique Buttons + FREE Printables • Adirondack Girl @ Heart

Saturday we celebrated my sweet daughter’s 20th birthday at a Vietnamese Pho (noodle) restaurant in her college town. Today I’m joining my Thrifty Chick girlfriends to share projects related to buttons. After giving the topic some thought, I decided to create some simple cards that can be used to display and sell vintage and antique buttons. You can find other blog posts related to vintage buttons here: Collecting Vintage Buttons Part I, Collecting Vintage Buttons Part II, Framing Vintage Buttons, 10 Decorative Button Ideas, and Framed Button Hearts.

Why I Hunt for Vintage Finds at Church Flea Markets • Adirondack Girl @ Heart

In today’s post about vintage finds at church flea markets I’m sharing why I enjoying hunting at them for the good stuff. I’ll tie another bottle brush tree to the top of the vintage matchbox bus (cost: 50¢), and the newer, miniature spongeware pitcher (cost: 25¢) joins a small “accidental” collection that I hope to post about sometime soon. The Yardley talc powder tin was a fun find (cost: $2, value: $10-15), the Baby Ben by Westclox is for sale on eBay at the moment (cost: $2, value: $12-20), and I sell a lot of sewing notions on eBay and plan a blog post about darners in the near future (cost: $2).

Collecting Antique Bandboxes + FREEBIE • Adirondack Girl @ Heart

The term “bandbox” is derived from the 17th century boxes manufactured in England to hold large, detachable collars popular at the time. In 19th century America wallpaper manufacturers made these charming boxes–covered with their beautiful wall paper–to hold many different sorts of items, including gloves, hair combs, and ribbons. Bandboxes, often mistaken for hat boxes, were of course the precursor to these popular boxes sold in conjunction with both men’s and women’s hats throughout the early part of the 20th century. Here’s a little story to put a smile on your face today: Lord Ellenborough, Chief Justice of England, was once about to go on the circuit, when Lady Ellenborough said she should like to accompany him.
