With its slogan #notjustwords, the fourteenth edition of Antwerp Pride – taking place from Wednesday, Aug. 11 through Sunday, Aug. 15 - will focus on online discrimination and bullying. This year’s theme is not accompanied by major demands or strong calls for action, but it does express a genuine concern regarding hate, bullying and discrimination on social media. We hope people will do some research before voicing strong opinions, that they twist their tongue before commenting on a news item, that empathy and tolerance will enter the online world a little more. From the printing press of Plantin Moretus, over the world’s first newspaper by Abraham Verhoeven, and media groups like DPG Media and Mediahuis today, Antwerp has always been a city that spreads the word through different channels far beyond its city limits.
