The mission of Wynona's House is to promote justice and provide healing for child victims of abuse and neglect in Essex County.
This conference is intended for Victim Assistance Professionals, including child advocates, educators, CASA workers, law guardians, child protection workers, law enforcement professionals, medical professionals, mental health professionals, and social workers. Topics include how to use a collaborative model to assess and treat Youth with Problematic Sexual Behavior (YSB) problems, protocol for pediatricians and treatment for child sexual abuse victims, the intersection of pre-teen curiosity and online predators, sexting and cyber-bullying, protocol for reporting child abuse according to mandatory reporting laws, restorative practices for service providers assisting children and families of abuse, and the vulnerabilities of individuals in victim populations that put them at risk for further victimization. A panel discussion of the Multi-Disciplinary Team Response will host speakers from the Essex County Prosecutors Office, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, Metro Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center, and Wynona’s House Child Advocacy Center. By raising awareness not just of child abuse and child neglect, but of the effectiveness of the multi-disciplinary team response in treating children who have been victims, we increase the likelihood for them to become successful and resilient adults by providing a coordinated treatment through child advocacy centers.
