I’m looking forward to April and spending a weekend in search of flower festivals! Tulips of the Valley is Western Canada’s largest tulip festival and highlights hyacinths and daffodils as well as tulips. Bloom Tulip Festival is an event formed from a long-lasting love of tulips by the owner, Peter, and his Dutch family who immigrated to the Abbotsford area in the 1950s. Congratulations to Peter’s daughter who came up with the brilliant idea of hosting the Bloom Tulip Festival and allowing us to experience a bit of the Netherlands in Western Canada!
I had the pleasure of staying at the luxury oceanfront hotel Oak Bay Beach Hotel for a Wellness Weekend with Catherine Roscoe Barr of The Life Delicious. Oak Bay Beach Hotel has a few dining options, The Snug Pub, Kate’s Café, and The Dining Room. I attended a Wellness Weekend by Catherine Roscoe Barr of The Life Delicious, hosted at Oak Bay Beach Hotel. The next Wellness Weekend is January 31 to February 2, 2020, at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel—make sure to book your spot!
After 40 hours of travel time from Canada to Harare, Zimbabwe, I was warmly welcomed at the airport by a car service to take me to the Amanzi Lodge. I was again warmly greeted by David upon arrival at the main Lodge then he walked me through the lush gardens and waterfalls to my suite in one of 16 luxury private lodges spread throughout the property. Both of my stays were short visits in mid-August and too cold to enjoy the pool, though I was able to curl up outside for a bit on the covered area of my suite and enjoy a beautiful African sunset. One of the highlights for me after a long day was to soak in the old fashioned bathtub and listen to the wildlife outside through my open window – in my imagination, it was the sounds of monkeys chattering and swinging through the trees but it was probably something completely different.
On this 4-day visit, we went been bear watching, whale watching, tide pooling, visited shops in town, feasted on fresh crab, and watched the sunset over Chesterman Beach. It couldn’t have been better timing when we pulled up to a house on the outskirts of Tofino advertising “fresh crab It’s near where our AirBnb was located and also near The Crab Lady. We stopped at many of them and discovered the perfect end the day was watching the sunset at Chesterman Beach.
