Conductor, Rescuer of Victorians, Teacher, Antiquing Fanatic, Addicted to Brogues. I can't wait to see my house finished. It is beautiful when I close my eyes.
I had a bunch of wallpaper scraps leftover after wallpapering the Study, and so I decided to try and make all the outlets and switch plates in the room disappear. To be honest, wallpapering the outlet covers seemed initially like a really antiquated thing to do, but I thought I’d see if I liked it ( Initially, I thought : I’m just going to switch out all the plugs and covers to black. I used plastic wrap, spray adhesive, scissors, a precision craft knife, extra wallpaper, and the outlet cover.
It’s been such a good move for us, but clearly, it’s taken a lot of time. My favorite though (not in its color) are the medals from a Thanksgiving Race – if you ran all three legs (a 4K, 5K, and 6K), you got all three medals. And a little wooden train (Purdue’s Mascot, the Boilermakers, is actually a train). I also added a Christmas gift I got him this year – this bank, made from a mailbox in a bank from Chicago, that was built in 1902 (the same year our house was built).
We stumbles on this giant set of antique clamps several summers ago at a flea market, and I loved the patina and architecture of them – and knew I’d find a fun use for them. Since they are the perfect symbol of building and woodworking, I really wanted to use them in Doug’s space in the Study
I feel like it’s been about 12 years since I’ve written a blog post. There have been some great things about this fall – don’t get me wrong. And when I can’t do it, I don’t feel like me. It doesn’t need a lot, which is why it’ll be the perfect thing for me to work on while Doug is in the Basement.
