Hi! I'm Kristi, decorator and DIY addict, currently remodeling my 1948 home pretty much by myself. Visit my blog and check out my progress!
This way I could have pretty green glass shades, but the light coming from the fixture wouldn’t have a green cast to it. After everything was sprayed, I put the glass shades outside in the sun to “bake” for a few hours, and then when they were good and dry, I used some isopropyl alcohol wipes to clean up any overspray on the outside of the glass shades. Also, I do expect the paint on this glass to last indefinitely just because a glass shade on a wall-mounted light fixture isn’t something that’s handled often. But if you want to paint glass on an item that’s handled more often, like a vase that you actually want to use regularly, you can add a coat of clear resin over the dried paint and the finish will be very durable once the resin has cured.
It’s the same flooring that’s in pretty much the entire house, with the exception of the hallway bathroom, which has tile, and the two rooms that will eventually be torn down (sunroom and master bathroom). I think because this flooring is so common in old houses in this area, the Home Depot here carries this flooring in stock, which is incredibly convenient. I started at the entrance to the back entry (the entrance to the entrance 😀 ) and I’m working my way to the back door. The entry floor opens up into the bathroom and storage closet floor, so I’ll continue going that direction in all three areas all the way to the back wall of the house, and then I’ll have to come back and go the opposite direction to fill in those blank areas in the bathroom and storage closet.
So I went back to the original three quarts of paint I had purchased for the bathroom, but instead of using them full strength, I mixed each one with white in a 1 part color, 2 parts white ratio. To achieve that look, I just painted the first color up to the corner, and then started at that corner with the next color, making sure that they didn’t touch so that the colors wouldn’t get mixed. That center painted rectangle bothered me, so on the spirals that had already been painted, I added three strips of tape and painted the center part white. On the ones that hadn’t been painted yet, I added more tape to the design so to eliminate the center painted rectangle.
I decided to take part in another One Room Challenge as a guest participant, and I’m barely coming in under the wire with this commitment. So for this challenge, I’m going to continue working on the studio half bathroom and the back entry, and I’m fairly confident that I can get them done in time. I love all of that color, but I’m wanting to add a large dose of black to the room just to kind of balance the colorful fun walls with a dose of class. So I’m either going to do black wainscoting, inspired by bathrooms that I keep seeing like this one…
