Smokebeard's Final PCT Gear List and Review

One thing I discovered during the trip was how many people consider gear as single-hike (or even half-hike) disposable. A lot of people wouldn’t carry this pack because it’s so heavy, at 2.7 lbs. It’s like the Hitchhiker’s towel—scarf, turban, hostel towel, sarong, anything. I didn’t sweat every ounce, and in fact enjoyed watching the anguish of the ultralight guys when I mentioned pack weight or how much water I carried.

Back in the Black: The Basics

This series will cover the tools I’ve used and the processes I went through for planning my trip, and what I view as the need-to-know information before embarking on a trip. At this point if you are involved in the outdoors in any way, shape, or form, or you have followed this website then you’ve heard about Leave No Trace (LNT) a lot! Well, growing up in scouting I was always aware of picking up after yourself and others, don’t wander off trail, poop the right way, don’t make fires willy-nilly, be quiet, and don’t mess with the wildlife. but I don’t need those, that’s pointless weight that I won’t be using.
