Highlights
Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Unfortunately, there were compromised systems like the one involved in this instance where the patch was applied after the device was compromised, but since the system had already been compromised, the door was open for attackers to enter months later. Having something like Duo so that just a username and password are not enough goes a long way to prevent things like password spraying attacks. Items like HPE’s Silicon Root of Trust provide trusted handshakes from the lowest level firmware to BIOS and software to ensure their servers maintain a known good state. AMD offers Secure Encrypted Virtualization which provides encrypted Memory, Encrypted virtualization with a key per VM, and Encrypted CPU register contents allowing encryption in every step and preventing one compromised thread from gaining access to other memory registers and CPU registers.

Wide Area Networking in a Hybrid Multi-cloud World

With the increasing adoption of both cloud and SaaS, the amount of traffic bound for the internet is increasing and taxing not only the datacenter connection to the internet, but the bandwidth required from the WAN as well. In a hybrid multi-cloud world, wouldn’t it be faster to transfer the data to the closes Point of Presence for the provider, be it cloud datacenters like Azure or AWS or SaaS For Teams and Skype, this can mean best point of connection for the call, best point of connection for video, and best point of connection for files and collaboration. The session breakout capability permits IT to allow SaaS applications and traffic bound to the cloud to go directly from the branch, while requiring all remaining traffic to backhaul to the data center as usual.

Citrix License Changes

This pricing model was initially created to give the customers who are not prepared to move to Citrix Cloud services the ability to purchase subscription based instead of perpetual licensing as they were used to. Subscription based licensing has been the model most software vendors have been moving towards for a while now, and with the advent of Cloud products and “everything as a service”, this move to subscription-based licensing has only gained momentum. Citrix has now modified their licensing page to show that perpetual licensing will no longer be available for purchase after September 30th, 2020. Starting on the first of October, if you want to add additional licensing, you can only purchase these as a subscription-based license.
