3D Modeling for Cosplay? Try Fusion 360!

I’m not a big fan of polygons – the little triangles used to create 3D models in most other programs Then you pick a piece of your drawing and raise it up into the 3D space. Then you pick the next piece, and add or subtract it to/from your previous one. In the video below I show you how I created a full Fallout 4 prop in Fusion from start to finish.

Installing LEDs into Props and Costumes

For years I was fascinated by the idea of adding lights to my costumes and props, but at the same time really scared of trying it myself. Having nearly failed all of my physics and math lessons in school, I immediately felt a cold shiver down my spine just thinking of all of these confusing formulas. I used a simple 2032 button cell battery, which provides exactly 3 volt. You don’t need any calculations, any soldering and don’t have to think about which materials and tools you might have to get.

Getting started with Cosplay

Creating a cool costume or prop out of ordinary materials like fabric and floor mats is incredibly fun. It’s meeting new people, learning new skills and all of this while dressed like your favourite character! Doesn’t matter how good or bad your costume turns out, if you actually look like the character or not or even if you made the entire costume yourself or bought it. My first cosplays were silly, held together by safety pins and hot glue and I surely didn’t look like the tall, muscular man I tried to portrait – and it didn’t matter.

Sewing Basics for Beginners

Thinking back, I was never a big fan of my sewing machine and there were a lot of situations where I had to force myself to sit in front of it. Now, a couple of years later, I feel a lot more comfortable and love to tackle projects that involve even a lot of advanced sewing techniques! Next to the sewing machine, it’s also a very good idea to get an iron as well as an ironing board. It’s also surprisingly (well not really surprisingly) helpful to check out the manual of your sewing machine.
