We wanted to make that a little easier for our generator service customers in Central Valley California towns like Modesto, Stockton, and Fresno. Now, about a dozen years later, he is one of our most experienced generator technicians, working on generator brands like Kohler, Taylor and Cummins/Onan. Within a couple years, Jeff was a field technician himself – out in a truck working on customers’ stationary and portable generators. Now over a year later, Jeff services the generators of many of our customers in Stockton, Modesto, and the Central Valley being based out of our Sacramento Branch.
Deadly levels of carbon monoxide (CO) can quickly build up in these areas and can linger for hours, even after the generator has shut off. Exhaust from backup generators, both portable and stationary, contains a high level of carbon monoxide (CO) gas. Keep generators positioned outside and at least 15 feet away from open windows so exhaust does not enter your home/business or a neighboring home/business. Install CO detectors/alarms throughout your home to ensure you are aware of the presence of CO gas.
As outlined in the California Air Resources Board Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM), portable tier 0 diesel engines rated at 50 bhp or greater were to be completely removed from service as of January 1st 2017. We’ve all known this was coming as it’s already been over 7 years (time flies) since the same category of engine was relegated to only low-use, emergency application. Tier 1 standards were phased in between 1996 and 2000, tier 2 between 2001 and 2006, tier 3 between 2006 and 2008, and finally tier 4 between 2008 and 2015. As you consider adding equipment to your fleet, keep in mind that it will be time to retire tier 1 engines soon (see below) so you’ll want to start budgeting for that too.
Just like you, we have been watching the unfolding emergencies caused by Irma and Harvey and the wildfires in Oregon and Montana. Due to supply interruptions caused by these events, we are experiencing a slowdown in parts delivery. Please be aware that equipment delivery for newly-purchased generators may also be delayed due to manufacturing issues and equipment being diverted to other parts of the country. If you have any questions or concerns, please call (925) 229-2700 or (916) 564-2622 to discuss with one of our staff members.
