Because a rich life shouldn't cost a fortune.
Today I wanted to invite a fellow Los Angeles boss lady and tireless do gooder, Brooke Marston, to collaborate on last minute gifting for the holidays with some of her favorite charitable brands and #giveback products. Brooke started her girl power and charity-inspired blog, Charity Girl Problems, to provide visibility to other modern day Charity Girls and inspire Charity Girls-to-be with new and creative ways to give back despite the busy lives we all lead: Charity is no longer about being wealthy or needing something to do because you have too much time on your hands. I often find myself buoyed by Brooke’s optimism and dedication to putting other people and great causes ahead of her own selfish impulses, so if Brooke’s mission inspires you as well then I would very much encourage you to visit her blog or follow along via Instagram as she highlights events and brands that incorporate a giving mentality both here in Los Angeles and beyond. She is here to introduce you to the modern day Charity Girl; to share the stories of those out there doing good on a daily basis, inspire you to find new and creative ways you can give back in your already hectic life, and teach you more about the Charity Girl world.
She is the founder of Writing our Wrongs, a program which aims to combat bullying by empowering youth to activate their voice in positive and constructive ways through both writing and speech. From that pledge card, Writing Our Wrongs, Inc. became a platform to empower youth to activate their voice through writing and speech. I admire the work of many thought leaders and youth advocates in social justice and anti-bullying such as my mother, Gwendolyn Smith, who has had her own non-profit for fifteen years, my pastor, Rachel Senior who also has a nonprofit to empower young women. The following are also some great literary resources for social action and anti-bullying: Melissa D. White is an Atlanta, GA based Youth Advocate, National Sales and Marketing Trainer and Public Speaker.
I had my first proper vacation of 2016 during which I ate fresh lobster daily, snorkeled with the fishes, and drank banana daiquiri like it was going out of style; I achieved a couple of significant work milestones at my day job, joined a special photoshoot with two other influential beauty ambassadors for Paul Mitchell, saw both Adele and Coldplay in concert during the same weekend and managed somehow to end up within arm’s reach of both artists, received a surprise donut delivery from my car insurance provider (Metromile), followed by a couple of my favorite holidays: National Dog Day and Women’s Equality Day on August 26th. I don’t itemize my August highlights to brag, but rather to recognize an unusual concentration of fabulous moments that I really don’t want to forget or take for granted. And I’m officially putting it out there to the universe that I am 100% on board with more months like August, so let’s do this! ! !
They are adorable and make great eco-friendly party favors or even creative bridesmaid gifts, actually… All things considered, menstrual cups are way more affordable than pads and tampons, are better for the environment, and you only need ONE cup (and maaaaybe a back up? ) which frees up valuable space wherever you’ve typically got copious amounts of tampons squirreled away: your medicine cabinet, your boyfriend’s medicine cabinet, your already-stuffed-to-the-gills suitcase, your purse, your briefcase, the glove compartment of your car, and trash cans the world over. *Add to that annoyance or mortification when sharing a bathroom with a male significant other or siblings, combined with intense daily pressure to hide all evidence of your period from view, combined with the proclivity of some pets to dine upon or festively destroy used feminine hygiene products – PRICELESS Recently a menstrual cup company by the name of Lunette reached out to me and asked if I wanted to try a sample. As I was already converted to using a Diva Cup, I asked Lunette to send me a few of their cutest menstrual cups and I would enlist my most skeptical girlfriends to try them out. Yes, in situations where carrying tampons/throwing tampons away in the trash isn’t the best option.
