Hey y’all It’s been another busy day of working & planning. Also... I really struggled to maintain balance last semester & spent most of the semester feeling like I was drowning in work. I have come up with a little challenge for myself for the month of August (basically, I’m going to try force myself to do a little bit of exercise, reading & self-care instead of just working all the time). Hopefully this will be more successful than my attempt at a morning routine (those of y’all who were around last year may remember just how unsuccessful that was because apparently I have no will power😂). Most of what I read was written by American & European students, and although I gained some insight into what my life would be like, I decided that it was time I put together some tips & resources tailored to South African students. My welcoming program was designed around helping us to get to know our campus (there was a huge emphasis placed on safety), encouraging us to be open to new experiences & giving us the opportunity to bond with the other people in my residence. The talk was given in the lounge of a really nice restaurant in town & it was attended mostly by business people, academic faculty & post-graduate students (& of course, me and my five first year friends). I feel like budgeting for food is probably the hardest part of budgeting - I don't have a proper kitchen, so I need my meals to use as few ingredients as possible, take as little time as possible, be at least a little bit healthy & fit within my budget.
Hey y’all I only have 1 exam left & then I will be half way through my degree! Most of the marks that I have gotten back so far look good, so I’m feeling okay despite the fact that the online term was pretty tricky. At this stage I don’t think I’ll be going back to campus next semester, but I’m still waiting for an official update. It’s almost the last week of online lectures (thank goodness!). This whole ‘online university’ situation has been a HUGE learning curve for me. As hard as it’s been, I am super thankful that I have my own study space (& the nicest desk) at home, semi-decent wifi, a personal laptop & lots of resources at home. I will be starting exams in less than 2 weeks & I have no idea what to expect - they’re all going to be online, but some of them will be like online quizzes & others will take more of a project form. Hey y’all I feel like I have completely lost my sense of time since I’ve been on lockdown. There are only 2 & a half weeks of my online semester & then I’ll be starting my exams (online of course). I have been so busy trying get through & understand my coursework that I haven’t even begun to think about studying (yikes!). Anyway, my plan is to make good use of this weekend & to start putting together some notes for the modules that I am most concerned about. It’s been almost a week since I last posted (oops🤭), but here are some more lectures notes for my mathematical statistics module. I’m finding that online lectures are keeping me super busy! I had another math assessment on Friday which was only supposed to take me a couple of hours, but it ended up taking pretty much the whole day... (I decided to really try & make sure I got all the marks I could because I’m struggling a bit with some of my modules now that lectures are online & I am a little nervous about my exams).
