Post-surgery update: 2 months I have been able to start working out again. Sometimes yoga, lifting light weight (5lbs), and walking when the weather is nice. Slowly but surely getting stronger πͺ On the flip side, I have still been experiencing a lot of pain, despite following all the doctors orders and stretches. Following up with him in about 2 weeks, wish me luck π€ Also, starting up my health and wellness journey again. Swipe to see my new 'before' photo. 12/29/23 vs 1/25/24 My scar after 4 week post-op appointment. The doctor said I was healing 'beautifully' (his words, not mine). I have been given the green light to start gently exercising, stretching, and even to lift light weights. I am so excited to get back into some healthy habits!πͺ #postop #backsurgery #backsurgeryrecovery #surgeryrecovery #recovery #scar
3 Week Post Surgery Update: π€ this whole week has been a ride on the struggle bus. I have been having recurring pains in my right leg, similar to what I had before. I spoke with the doctor, and I'm on a round of steroids to decrease inflammation. I am so nervous and scared that I'm not healing how I should be, but the doctor informed me it could take up to 3 months for the nerves to heal. Luckily I work from home, so I returned to work, taking lots of breaks. It's so hard to stay still when all I want to do is start moving again. But this week it's been about 10 degrees here in Michigan, so my walks have been limited to up and down the hallway βοΈ I'll keep you posted on this roller coaster of recovery π’ πͺ #backsurgery #backsurgeryrecovery #recovery #surgeryrecovery
Day 10 Post surgery update: Finally left the house...and put on hard pants! I rode along with my husband to pick up my prescription and a few groceries. While it wasn't a long trip, it was so refreshingly 'normal'. I have been feeling a little better everyday, I hope that continues. Since I work remotely, today was my first day back to work. I ended up taking a few breaks to lay down and relax my body. I feel like the tortoise trying to beat the hare, slow and steady. My follow-up appointment with my doctor isn't for another few weeks, but I can't wait to continue making progress! #backsurgeryrecovery #backsurgery #recovery #progress
Day 5 Post-surgery: big day! At this point, it's all about baby steps. I bundled up to take a walk with my dog around my yard and driveway. It wasn't much, but it's a small start! To a person who used to identify as a runner and run 5Ks all the time, it's wild to me to be celebrating such small steps. But my doctors told me that it's best to take several small walks instead of one long walk, so I'm just following orders on my road to recovery. πΆββοΈπ₯πͺ #backsurgery #recovery #babysteps #backsurgeryrecovery #spinesurgery #dogsofinstagram #dogwalk #corgipoo #corgipoosofinstagram
Day 4 Post-surgery update: feeling good! I am still so sore, but starting to feel human again. My son gave me his new stuffed octopus to help me feel better. I feel so incredibly blessed to have all of my boys and my husband helping me move around, make dinner, do laundry, and all the other things I am not able to do. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Day 1 post-surgery : Major Trumbull vibes! Feeling pretty sore and tender in my lower back. But my sciatic nerve pain is gone! π± I cannot believe after over a year of pain, I am able to move my right leg so freely (well, it's still pretty limited at this point). So thankful for Dr. Vibert at @beaumonthealth and Michigan Spine and Orthopedic, and thankful to my husband for helping me move around the house so far!
Last walk before my surgery tomorrow! I've been pretty quiet here lately. After over a year of doctor appointments, chiropractor appointments, physical therapy and machines, I am finally having surgery to repair a herniated disc that's been pressing against my sciatic nerve. It's been a long road, and I've been really struggling. The excruciating leg and back pain has led to weight gain, which dropped my self esteem, and I gained more weight and lost the muscle I worked so hard to build. I am a bit nervous about the surgery, but I am so excited for the opportunity to get my life back. I will keep you all posted on my progress!
