The Lenape Valley High School Service Art Club members recently went to United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen in Newton, NJ to conduct a holiday craft event for the senior citizens living there. The organization of this event was a collaborative effort of Lenape Valley art club advisor Mrs. Sherry Carnegie and Bristol Glen’s Volunteer Services Coordinator, Mrs. Kaitlyn Eamigh. The high school students benefited by being given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the senior citizens through helping them produce a holiday project. Mrs. Carnegie is looking forward to bringing members of the art club back to Bristol Glen in the future for this annual service art event.
United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen Administrator, Jeff Lisk proudly reports, “Achieving a deficiency-free federal survey affirms and motivates us to practice the highest standards each and every day. It all began on September 2, when a team of five qualified health professionals arrived at the bustling 235,000+ square-foot retirement community where 473 associates and residents cooperatively work and live. Five representatives, four from the state and one from CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), part of the federal Department of Health and Human Services, came with a specific mission. Their methodical exploration of clinical practices included reviewing medication passes, medication carts, resident charts, and observing meals for issues of quality, sanitation and resident dignity.
United Methodist Communities (UMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of George Arezzo to the position of executive director of United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen, a continuing care retirement community located in Newton, NJ. The Bristol Glen management team will report directly to Mr. Arezzo, who brings more than 35 years’ experience in health care. A Master of Public Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rochester Institute of Technology complement LNHA (Licensed Nursing Home Administrator) certification in New Jersey and New York. Prior to joining United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen, Mr. Arezzo was campus executive director at Atrium Health and Senior Living in Little Falls, NJ.
In May of this year, Cathy Foley, move-in coordinator at Bristol Glen, received the United Methodist Communities Hospitality Award for demonstrating the spirit of unconditional love, care; taking responsibility, following up diligently to enact solutions, and going above and beyond to make everyone feel welcomed. So, it’s no surprise that Foley got an idea, sparked by a September news broadcast about the generosity of a New Jersey pizza restaurant owner to police officers. Sarah Ur, Bristol Glen’s executive director, had sampled Foley’s cookies, most recently at an onsite ladies’ fashion show. Since then through a nephew, brother-in-law, friends, fellow associates, and word-of-mouth, many others have been recipients: Four New York Police Department precincts including its Counter Terrorism Task Force; Riverdale, NJ and Metropolitan Transit Authority police departments; as well as the New Jersey State Troopers Barracks in Newark and Hope.
