No one would ever mistake Manhattan for being a touchy-feely city. People mostly keep to themselves and the pace can make even the most type – A personality long for a breath

Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia: A True Crime Lover's Nirvana

If you’re like me, fascinated by the criminal mind, fading ruins, and history in its most infamous, Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia will make your day. and I was immediately hit with the fact that life in the p was far from peachy—not that I expected it would be, but things like that always hit you a little differently when you see it in person. The First in Modern Conveniences (sort of) To house all the convicts in a solitary environment, the cells had central heating, running water, and cast iron toilets that flushed once a day. Experts in the paranormal have studied the prison on countless occasions and according to the penitentiary’s website has been featured on “SyFy’s Ghost Hunters; the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures, Paranormal Challenge, and Most Haunted Live; Fox Television’s World’s Scariest Places; TLC’s America’s Ghost Hunters; and MTV’s FEAR.

Meet the renowned wildlife photographer: Marlon du Toit

On a trip to my mission was two-fold: I needed to escape my A. D.D., a necessary evil if you want a career in Manhattan (Africa, I found, is one of the few places on earth I can truly relax and be present), and to improve my wildlife photography skills. Enter Marlon du Toit (pronounced du-toy), the leader of the Wild Eye photographic safari  I joined in June to explore the Timbavati region of South Africa. It’s not an easy job leading a group of photographers and for the first few days of our I have no doubt Marlon earned his keep with me. Here’s just a few of the images I love from Marlon’s Website.

Swimming with baby sea lions in the Sea of Cortez!

As the baby sea lions zoom past, banking, rolling, diving, swimming in loop de loops like Hotwheels on a track, I am sure of one thing, even if this UnCruise sucked (which it doesn’t), the trip would be worth it for this one hour. We are at the base of Los Islotes, a huge guano-streaked rock formation near Isla Espiritu Santo in the Sea of Cortez, and as far as I’m concerned it’s a little slice of heaven. Unlike seals, sea lions have long front flippers with which they propel themselves through the water while seals use their hind flippers. • Sea lions have small ear flaps (seals don’t) and use both sets of flippers to move on land while seals bounce along on their stomachs.
