As part of the Prentice & Weil blog tour, celebrating the brassy and magnetising novels BLACK ARTS & DEVIL'S BLOOD, I have for you a post by Jonathan Weil himself on his favourite character: Beth. As part of the Prentice & Weil blog tour, celebrating the brassy and magnetising novels BLACK ARTS & DEVIL'S BLOOD, I have for you a post by Jonathan Weil himself on his favourite character: Beth. and as we went from draft to draft, with the story changing along the way, Moll’s scenes kept getting cut down or cut out entirely. We wouldn’t have been so upset if we’d known that by cutting Moll, we were actually making room for an even better character, and one who would be central to the story.

How a Book Got Me Through My Sister's Operation

A year ago, I was sat in a hospital room watching my little sister sleep amongst flickering machine screens and flimsy plastic tubes that weaved from her little hands and into more machines and bags of crystalline liquid. In those four days, I saw my sister remain steely against throbbing pains, my dad's hand shake as he signed the thin paper of the operation form, my mum's smile remain the only tangible thing to grasp hold of. Yet it doesn't detract from the furiously vivid memories I have of the bitter tears that too often stained my eyes, or of the bland taste of hospital food that my sister was too ill to eat So there I would sit in the red leather chair with my e-reader permanently stuck on page 104 of Holly Smale's, carefully fixing my eyes on each inky grey word.

Winter by Marissa Meyer

It was exactly the return to a world I loved, characters I loved and a story I loved that reminded me just exactly how much I adore the feeling of a favourite book. I most definitely don't want to let go, but I couldn't imagine a better send-off thanas a series has to have some of my favourite characters of all time. Regardless of the fact this book series does turn into a complete shipping fest- because the couples are too adorable not too -nothing amounts to having the entire group of friends together. There is such a diverse set of personalities and people in general that it makes for one of the best teams in YA literature, and as someone who's reading experience depends heavily on the characters, I honestly could not ask for a better book.
