Anyone else go through more cotton balls for crafting than they do for their skincare routine? 🌧❤🌧❤🌧 Whether we’re stamp-painting with them, using them to add texture and sensory input into a craft, or coating them in flour and water to make smashable cotton balls… these little tufts of softness are in high demand in our house. 🌧 Today’s craft is a fun take on “showering with love” - and would make a cute Valentine’s day craft! ❤ With this craft, kids develop hand strength, practice their knot-tying, strength their pincer grip and use their measuring skills, all while making something beautiful. 🌧 They also get all that wonderful sensory feedback from the soft cotton balls, the tension of the yarn, the smooth texture of the foam, and the gritty texture of the glitter (or colored sand). 🎵We’re painting the roses red 🎵 … and purple, and green and pink! 🌹💐🌹💐🌹 I can’t think of this activity without getting that song from Alice in Wonderland stuck in my head! Ella had so much fun getting to paint some Dollartree roses for a unique Valentine’s Day bouquet. I think they turned out super cute - and they could also be used to make a Valentine’s Day wreath or added to a painting. To make your own, you will need: 🌹White or light colored fabric roses 🌹Watercolor paints 🌹Paintbrushes ➡️This craft is incredibly simple, just prepare a clean working surface and have plenty of water and a rag or paper towels to clean your brush. ➡️Mix a bit of water with the watercolor paint and apply to the flower. I found over-saturating the watercolors with water made it easier to apply the paint to the fabric. ➡️Experiment with different color combinations and methods of applying the paint to the roses. ➡️Maybe you'll add a thick layer of paint to part of a petal and add some water directly to it to see how the color spreads along the petal. Maybe you'll try mixing colors directly on a petal. There is no wrong way to do this craft. ➡️Let the flowers dry completely, at least one hour, before assembling into a bouquet or using for another craft (like a flower headband!) 🌹💐🌹💐🌹 I hope your kids love it as much as Ella did! Could anyone else go for a plate of this baked brie with raspberries right now? 🧀🧀🧀 My daughter is a huge fan of brie and raspberries (I’m more of a strawberry or blackberry fan) so she was thrilled to be my taste-tester for this #ValentinesDay recipe. It is the ultimate in appetizer perfection and PERFECT for Valentine’s Day: ❤gooey, melted brie cheese ❤sweet and tart raspberry jam topped with juicy, fresh raspberries ❤sprinkled with warm, toasted almonds ❤nestled in a crunchy, crusty loaf of fresh sourdough 🧀🧀🧀 What you need to make this recipe: 🧀 Sourdough Bread <-- can use any round loaf of bread 🧀 Brie 🧀 Raspberries 🧀 Raspberry Jam 🧀 Sliced Almonds Preheat oven to 350F Place the sliced almonds on a cookie sheet and toast for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly browned. Meanwhile, use a serrated knife to remove the top of the sourdough loaf. Place the brie on top of the bread and use the knife to "score" the bread to show how big the brie is. Remove the brie and cut into the bread to make a large enough hole for the brie to be set in. Cut the top rind off of the brie. Place the brie in the sourdough and place on cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Immediately top with raspberry jam, raspberries and the toasted almonds. Serve immediately, or wrap in tinfoil if you need to delay serving for a few minutes.
