While the road to Hana is an amazing place to find Maui’s best waterfalls, there are plenty of others to check out.
Because it’s Women’s History Month, I wanted to share some ways to support women specifically while you’re travelling: Generally, it’s more likely that a woman is the owner if the store is local and there is a woman working there. It’s also a great opportunity to ask questions and engage meaningfully with a local woman to gain her perspective. I think it’s important to consider not only the children’s dignity when taking (and posting) these pictures, but also their mother’s wishes.
Guanajuato City itself is known for being pretty safe, but make sure to do your research on any places you plan to visit outside the city. Holbox is a great place for solo female travelers because it’s small, quiet, and social all at the same time. It’s a very walkable city as well, so you can easily get around if you stay close to the city center. I’ve found that Mexico’s infrastructure allows for smooth and safe travel from place to place, a far cry from other places I’ve been.

El Arcotete: Located just a 10-minute drive (you can take a taxi there for just 50 pesos) from the city center, this park is the perfect place to spend the day. Often hosting screenings of local documentaries, this is a great place to stop in and get acquainted with the various ways people are currently documenting the experiences of local people in Chiapas.
