Coming this fall on NBC Bradley Whitford, Anna Camp and Spencer Allport will star in the new musical comedy Perfect Harmony. Sure did, my own son Spencer Allport has been cast as a series regular alongside an absolutely stellar cast on an NBC show. Late last year we decided as a family that we would make the move out to Hollywood to follow Spencer’s acting career in the new year. Last night was the opening night for Anastasia the musical at Dr. Phillips Center and I had the distinct pleasure of attending. The musical opens with the Dowager Empress played by Joy Franz and Little Anastasia played by Delilah Rose Pellow in Anastasia Anastasia’s Grandmother is leaving for Paris and has come to say good-bye to Anastasia. All are there except for Little Anastasia and the Dowager Empress leaving the historical question did Anastasia survive?

I had no prior knowledge of this musical except what was described in the synopsis before attending the opening at the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando. This scenario sets up the many twists and turns of the musical with personal struggle, interpersonal relationships of students and family, and depression intermixed with humor and an acute understanding of the human condition. Ben Levies Ross), Connor (Merrick Smith), Jared (Jared Goldsmith), Zoe (Maggie McKenna) and Alana (Phoebe Koyabe) all captured the essence of what high school students feel and face each and every day. The parents played by Jessica Phillips, Aaron Lazar and Christiane Noll captured the agonies of parenthood in dealing with the highs and lows of high school students trying to find themselves.
