Demonstrating continued commitment to our customers providing high-quality, safe and sustainable North Atlantic live lobster YORK, MAINE —Maine Coast, known for Lively Lobster™, fresh North Atlantic lobster sourced from U. S.A. and Canadian fisheries for distribution across the US and around the world, today announced that the company has achieved certification under the prestigious Safe Quality Food (SQF) Food Safety Code for Manufacturing. The SQF Food Safety Code is a globally recognized, independent food safety standard administered by the Safe Quality Food Institute. Widely considered one of the most rigorous and comprehensive food safety and quality standards in the world, SQF Certification requires producers to develop and implement a stringent food safety system that applies to every step of their supply chain, ensuring that products are produced, handled, processed, and distributed in accordance with standards among the strictest in the industry. The company has received numerous awards in the past few years including 2016 Mainebiz Fastest Growing Mid- Sized Company, and 2017 Inc. 5000’s Fastest Growing Private Companies, 2018 Maine International Trade Center’s Exporter of the Year, and 2019 Presidential “E” Award for Exports.
“U. S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross recognized York, Maine, U.S.A.-based lobster supplier Maine Coast with the President’s “E” Award for Exports on 23 May, for the company’s demonstrated national leadership in expanding export markets for the country. Forty-eight companies total were honored by Secretary Ross with the President’s “E” Award, “the highest recognition any U. S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports,” Maine Coast said. The ‘E’ Awards Committee was very impressed with Maine Coast’s efforts to sustain exports by opening new markets to lessen the impact of increased foreign tariffs in some of the company’s existing markets. In 2018, U. S. exports were the highest on record, with services valued at USD 821.1 billion (EUR 732.8 billion) and exports of goods reaching USD 1.7 trillion (EUR 1.5 trillion), according to the Maine Coast press release.
Interesting study done by Michael Donihue of Colby College with the Maine Department of Marine Resources and participation by many Maine Lobster Dealers. This is the first research conducted on the entire lobster supply food chain in Maine. In addition, the supply chain generates approximately 4,000 jobs throughout Maine. Maine Coast is extremely proud to be a part of the industry that delivers positive impact in the state of Maine and our local communities.
