In markets where homes are actually more scarce, that chasm of having that American dream and having access to that dream is certainly growing wider everyday, particularly for millennials. At 35%, Millennials lead the pack as the most active group of homebuyers in the United States according to a 2018 Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends study from the National Association of Realtors. Cari Jacobs, Unison’s Chief Marketing Officer recently sat down with Your Millennial Money to chat about co-investing in homeownership and how Unison helps you fund that elusive 20% down payment. Your Millennial Money, hosted by Shannah Compton Game, is a weekly podcast that shares life-changing money and lifestyle tips to jumpstart savings and empower the millennial generation to reach their goals.
If you’ve been dreaming of spending more quality time enjoying nature – or just enjoying your backyard – we put together a list of things you can do to enhance your home Choose from low-cost pressure treated lumber, elegant and durable tropical hardwoods, time-tested cedar or redwood, maintenance-free composites, or Ipe hardwood that’s designed to withstand even the harshest weather conditions and keep it looking great year after year. The possibilities are endless—layout as a single or multi-level structure; add built-in components like benches, railings, bars, planters, lighting, and cabinets; set up designated areas for cooking, dining, relaxing, or entertaining. You’ve probably spent some time planting and maintaining your front yard landscaping, and while that’s an excellent way to add curb appeal to your home, you shouldn’t ignore the backyard.
If it seems like you never have enough storage space in your bathroom, use the open vertical area in the room by placing a counter-top cabinet on the vanity or hanging a linen cabinet on the wall. If you find yourself scrubbing the water spots and fingerprints off your bath faucet every time someone uses it, you might want to consider switching it out for a touch-free automatic sensor faucet. If that powder blue porcelain sink and aluminum-framed medicine cabinet are ready to be retired, you’ll be excited to find a multitude of new fixtures that will transform your room into a HGTV-worthy space. Whether you choose to do a minor bathroom remodel or a major renovation project, the ideas above can transform your space and possibly even increase your home’s resale value.
The closing process occurs at the end of a real estate transaction when the ownership of a home is transferred from seller to buyer. Before you can close, you will need to have a purchase and sale contract that’s agreed upon by both the buyer and seller. If there are any red flags that pop up on the inspection (there are usually a few things), then the buyer can negotiate to ask the seller to fix any items. If there are major problems with the home (i.e. the structural integrity of the home, electricity, or plumbing), then the buyer can ask for inspection credits, repairs, or they can feel free to walk away from the transaction.
