Highlights
cécile hudrisier

Based out of Toulouse, France, Cécile Hudrisier is an artist/ writer best known for a series of children’s books featuring her whimsical, watercolor illustrations. The simplicity of her style is both childlike and sophisticated as she mixes the fluid, unpredictability of watercolor with the precision of a fine point pen. Cécile is also a prolific blogger, writing about her day-to-day work/ life on Les Chosettes De La Hud’ with writings always accompanied by even more original artwork. As I try to find my own watercolor style, I’m particularly inspired by her florals and how she layers semi-sheer color in a way that resembles tissue paper.

spring ’19

In 2009, Matt and Emily Baldwin launched Baldwin, an All-American denim company based out of Kansas City, Missouri. Last year, they brought on AG Jeans VP Johnathan Crocker as president to guide their expansion into a total lifestyle brand. And the spring collection perfectly sums up the new BLDWN – a contemporary label that puts a clean, modernist spin on the American sportswear model. So while there is plenty of red, white and blue, striping, workwear and (yes) denim, the pieces don’t pledge their allegiance to the flag.

mix and match

‘Stripe up your own brand of one-the-dot style! Weekend wear goes from pretty to witty when you combine patterns, putting clothes for day and play in a whole new perspective. ’ ‘Show your true colors: Brights get even better paired with black and white

apartment life

Launched in 1974, ‘AL’ was a magazine designed for a new generation of 20-somethings who shunned the expected life path of marriage and kids in suburbia for one that was more creative and independent. Given that their subscribers were more likely to rent an apartment than own a house, the magazine was packed with home tours of small dwellings and loft spaces, and DIY projects meant to inspire. In 1979, the editors published ‘The Apartment Book’, which is basically a collection of the magazine’s most innovative editorials. Met Home’ had a good run, lasting almost three more decades before tapping out in 2009 during the great magazine purge of the early aughts.
