Charity shop challenge: upcycling a coffee table

The coffee table was in two sections: a dark wooden stand (mahogany, I think), topped with a clear glass table top. It was pretty grubby and scratched – and the glass frame over the dark wood looked the wrong sort of old-fashioned. I decided to use glass etching cream to create a relief pattern in the glass itself. After cutting out the design (I used my Cricut Maker, to ensure it was perfectly precise! ), I applied it directly to the glass table.

How to make a spring wreath

To begin with, you’ll need to cover up the metal of your metal wreath frame. If you skip this step, you’ll probably see the shiny metal through the greenery of your spring wreath – which is a sure-fire way to ruin the natural effect! Simply cut some long strips of tape and wrap them around the metal wreath until it’s completely covered. This glue needs to set for 24 hours, but the finished bond is super strong – so you can hang your wreath outdoors, with no chance of your flowers flying off in the wind!

“March Meet The Maker” roundup

For the past month, I’ve been taking part in the #MarchMeetTheMaker Instagram challenge by Joanne Hawker. In a nutshell, the challenge was to post one image on Instagram every day of March. Each day had a specific theme, tailored around different aspects of running an indie craft business. Since I’ve spent a good few hours on this project over the past few weeks, I thought I’d share it all here on my blog, too!

Tape measure DIY camera strap (no sew)

Cut your black fabric ribbon 20cm longer than the tape measure ribbon (to allow extra for the adjustable section of the strap). For instance, my ribbon was 1.5cm wide, but my interfacing was 2cm wide, so I cut off 0.5cm all along the side of the interfacing. 5. Approximately 10cm from the edge, place the fusible interfacing and tape measure ribbon on top of it, in that order (so the interfacing is sandwiched in the middle). Place the centre of the ribbons on top of your leather strip and interfacing, so the black fabric ribbon is face down (and the tape measure ribbon is face up).
