Learn with superpowers with the most interesting content from the greatest thinkers of our time in one place. We pull in contents from +1000 sources and put it in an easy to navigate feed.
There is too much noise in social and mainstream media. They don't support thoughtful content. Mainstream media is partisan, divisive, and lacks nuance. So consumers stick to a few sources and don't hear opposing ideas. Leading thinkers are at the whim of biased media outlets to get their voices heard.
Social media promotes mainstream content, which is influencer-based, status-seeking, and rewards a race-to-the-bottom mentality. So consumers are overwhelmed with ads and noisy, addictive, and siloed feeds that reinforce biases. Leading thinkers have difficulty cutting through the noise with long-form, nuanced content.
Cicero aggregates and curates thinkers and their content into one place. Leading thinkers no longer have to figure out how to compete with world-class entertainment sponsored by big names. We provide a captive audience ready to engage with. Consumers can follow their favorite topics or thinkers, discover new content and thinkers, and get articles, essays, videos, podcasts and more delivered directly to their emails or feeds. This enables thinkers to own relationships with consumers, making them more intimate, and allow consumers to stay on top of their content no matter where they post
Everyone knows our information ecosystem is broken. Google gives us crappy results. Social media promotes astrologers and conspiracy theorists. Mainstream media spreads misinformation and thrives on making people angry. A lot of people have tried to solve these problems and failed. But some things have changed. People no longer go to random websites, or generic magazines, to get information. Instead, they go to their favorite Substack writer, Podcaster, or scientist on Twitter, or Youtube channel. People like Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss can leave their newspapers, start their own publications, and get financial support from their listeners. People like Lex Fridman and Andrew Huberman start podcasts and bring on world-leading experts to share their expertise with the world. In this noisy world, systems have developed to identify the signal. Consumers look to people, the aforementioned people to help them make sense of the world. To show them who they should be paying attention to, what books to read, what documentaries to watch, and what blogs to follow. That’s why we focus on voices at Cicero. Everything revolves around them. You follow them, consume their content, and look to them to curate your information. The algorithms of Google, Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube failed us. Thankfully, there is an age-old method of identifying the best voices that we put on Cicero. It’s as old as when Socrates mentored his protege Plato and continues on today as the professor mentors his protege or the CEO promotes the best employee. Or, in our context, when a world-leading thinker uses his expertise and networks to identify and bring on his or her podcast other voices worth listening to. That is what Cicero is built on. At the age of 7, I used to chant "Death to America" and burn American flags (truly insane, I know) By some stroke of luck, I was brought to the U.S. and exposed to things on the internet that saved me. So a decade later, I was a proud American and grateful that this country provided my mother with the opportunity to live a life free from the constraints of a theocratic patriarchal country. For some reason, the Google and Facebook gods decided to show me scientists instead of conspiracy theorists—philosophers instead of influencers. Not everyone is that lucky. I saw firsthand how many people around me were nudged toward a path of self-destruction, depression, and hate by their content feeds. And this luck deficit is why we need a better system to address our broken information ecosystem. A system that exposes people to the world's biggest thinkers instead of the latest viral Tiktok video from an astrologist. So that every child, and adult, can get access to quality, high-rung, and truthful content. That is why I am building Cicero. Join me on this journey and spread the word.
