Just one of the little joys on our road trips through Kenya. The amount of people who surround the car when you stop for roasted corn can be so overwhelming at the busier stops. BUT, we can’t get enough. This quickly became the girls favorite car snack. Popcorn on a stick anyone? . . . “Let’s go swim at the cave, how much fun will that be??” Listen, traveling with two toddlers might be AMAZING, but there are definitely moments. This cave in Zanzibar was absolutely breathtaking, and we wish that we could have stayed longer but it was just not going to happen for us this day. Though there are some cute clips, the rest of our time was full of tears, toddlers that both wanted mama to themselves, and facial exchanges of “are we going to try and wait it out?” But at the end of the day, if we’re going to have meltdowns, they might as well be somewhere beautiful, right? . . . #familytravel #travelfamily #honestparenting #funnyfamily #honesttravel #familytravelproblems #parentproblems family travel Zanzibar Tanzania parenting problems toddler life two under two young parents travel vlog

Note to self: if you have a drone in your camera kit, don’t leave the airport during a long layover in Cairo. We knew the law on drones in Egypt, but with a 17 hour layover after a crazy few days of travel we didn’t even think of it when we found out there was a hotel connected to our terminal. When heading to catch out flight we ran into a *slight* problem when asked if there was a drone in our bag. We’ll keep it at that for now because obviously the drone is in our possession, and all of us caught our connecting flight, but it was definitely a firm reminder to check and REMEMBER every country’s laws on drone usage and possession even if you’re only heading to the airport hotel to sleep 💤 . If you ever fly in Zanzibar, just know that every child in the village will run out to where you’re flying. Kojo flew for the kids for what seemed like hours this night until it started getting too dark out. #familytravel #houstonfamily #houstonblogger #multiculturalfamily #multiculturalcouple #travellife #africatravel #zanzibar Houston Family Blogger Family Travel Blogger Toddler Crafts Girl Mom Two Under Two Family Travel Tips Zanzibar
Let’s talk about COMMUNITY. There’s something to be said about a community that doesn’t leave people behind, but builds up ideas to support each other. We found @kazuribeadske through a Google search while looking for a Saturday activity. What we didn’t know is how beautiful their story is. Kazuri, meaning ‘small and beautiful’ in Swahili was founded to provide employment opportunities to single mothers around the Nairobi area. Today, Kazuri has become a global brand, shipping their ceramic beaded jewelry worldwide, and locally employing nearly 50 beautiful women. We went last Saturday and knew that we had to return during the week to meet the women behind the jewelry. We were greeted with singing and dancing, and the girls were taken to sit and paint with one of the pattern painters, Mila. We love the community here in Kenya. This place is magical. #familytravel #houstonfamily #houstonblogger #multiculturalfamily #multiculturalcouple #travellife #africatravel #kenya #magicalkenya #nairobi Houston Family Blogger Family Travel Blogger Kazuri Beads Nairobi Kenya Magical Kenya Toddler Crafts Girl Mom Two Under Two Family Travel Tips
I’m honor of the little birdy that may or may not be building a nest above our patio security camera while we’re away… here is our back patio set up that we are missing while we are away (especially knowing that the Houston weather has cooled down now) Speaking of birds, this back yard furniture is all from @yardbirdoutdoor and it is an absolute dream. Our set is the Ludlow sectional and we finished the look with a fire table to enjoying cool nights with some snuggles and s’mores. Why we chose this company: -Their fabrics are spill and stain resistant which is a MUST for kids. -The sectional we chose is modular, so if we move and need a different arrangement, OR if our family grows and we need to expand, it will be as easy as moving the pieces around or adding a new section. Who wants to come for s’mores and stories when we get back?? . . . This first photo deserved to be on its own, but we’ll make it a full safari dump anyway. Our first day in the Mara was unreal. Being around these animals will never get old. Can we just take a moment to give a round of applause to Afia for that photographer stance?? . . . Photos that are too special not to share from Mau Forest 1. Carried a sleepy Anidaso down the mountain in my shuka. So many times we were asked to take photos. We plan to print these and send them so that they have copies for themselves as often they don’t have printed photos. 2. Walking down toward Mau Forest to learn about the plants and natural remedies that the community takes advantage of. 3. So many beautiful generations within the community, and the girls were welcomed right in. 4. Coco (meaning grandma) quickly became Anidaso’s favorite, not only did she bead all of our jewelry, she also carried Anidaso up the mountain when we were done in the forest. 5. Of course with the views of the maintain Kojo had to fly the drone, everyone was so intrigued by how fast and far it could go. We only had one *almost* accident. 6. In Maasai communities it is very common to live past 100. Coco’s aunt has surpassed her hundredth year, but has not kept count of her exact age. We met her as she was on a walk on the mountain. 7. Lani decided she wanted hair like papa and she was so proud to wear it twisted with her Maasai beads. 8. We were welcomed into one of the homes for lunch and although there is a language barrier at times, talked, laughed, and learned about each other’s homes and cultures. 9. After lunch we were all blessed with traditional Maasai names that were specifically chosen and have been very fitting with our last few weeks. 10. Just a handsome man named Kojo. If you’ve made it this far, how is your Sunday going? . . . We hiked into Mau Forest to learn about plant and herbal remedies, be blessed with Maasai names, and eat lunch with this beautiful community. The most incredible piece of spending this time, was that despite there being a language barrier many times, we felt so welcome and at home, especially for the girls. We can truly say that we have a new family here, and the few days we were in this area have been so powerful. Do you want to hear more about our Masaai names?
