After 28 long days, we are finally going home. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for every single text, call, prayer, message, card, visit, and donation. We have been surrounded by so much love and support, which has been so humbling to witness the goodness of god through all of you. To sum it as short as I can, Remi got the stomach bug after knox had it on May 31st. I tried to let it run its course as an illness usually goes until the following Monday….she started having seizures. We went to the ER in town but soon went to Children’s via ambulance. I was scared but I honestly just thought she was dehydrated and having febrile seizures. But it got worse. She started staring to the left corner and being unresponsive (but still breathing on her own). We were transported to the ICU and they told me they would most likely have to intubate her shortly and she would need surgery on her skull to allow her brain to have room for the swelling. I was a mess. I got on my knees in places where I didn’t even care if people saw me. By the grace of god and so many prayers, none of the above came true. The swelling in her brain remained stable and we eventually went back to the neurology floor. We have taken steps forward and so many steps backward. It has been so hard to watch her struggle and also watch knox struggle with being away from me. They have tested for countless things and all of them have come back negative. For now, they are thinking that it is post infection encephalitis. Basically when she had the stomach bug, her immune system went into overdrive and started attacking itself causing the brain swelling. Because of the swelling in her cerebellum, she still isn’t able to talk or walk…YET. But….she has improved so much. She will need a lot of therapy but our little Remi has shown she is a fighter. The doctors believe she will make a full recovery with time.
