AGAIN, students throwing up, students arguing, students cussing, students just being straight up defiant, or students crying Then there’s what I learned as a first year teacher, which, I’m sure every teacher could find to be true, AKA my truths and realisms: 2. So even though you’re exhausted, and it would be nice to have just ONE day with a class of under 20 students, it’s really not good for your school (although it is for your sanity, so you weigh the cost of that). I have several bad memories from this year directly related to this topic: First, I remember crying at the end of the day for the first time in front of my ELA team, because my kids’ scores were EXACTLY AS HORRIBLE as they were at the beginning of the year, despite intense intervention for ALL my students: in class co-teaching, data driven pull-out groups, afterschool tutoring, and even tangible motivation.
The first week of school was chaotic in itself; getting to know my students, planning and implementing curriculum, gathering school supplies, figuring out how my students will get home, managing my time effectively, practice drills, going over classroom expectations, sending paperwork home…the list goes on. I care a lot about this job, and I care a lot about my students. The majority of my classroom decor came from Dollar Tree, which saved me a ton of money. I suppose on the outside, it looks like I know EXACTLY what I’m doing in my classroom, which is good.
I would much rather spend quality time together, and taking photos together is one way for us to document each year of marriage together in a fun and memorable way. One way we make each photo session unique and special to that year is by incorporating the traditional anniversary gift for that year: It’s a relaxing and meaningful place for us, so that’s where we decided to have our anniversary photos taken this year. I feel lucky to be his wife, but at the same time, after seeing how great one human can be, I feel like he is an example of what every human can and should be.
I’m thankful the heat atleast gave us a break until June this year, but yikes, it’s really hot and humid these days! I’m going to be teaching fourth grade ELA next year for my first year teaching, and I’m so excited/ nervous/ terrified! It’s frustrating that I had to put in so much time, money, and work to get where I am today. All in all, I’m very pleased with how everything worked out on the job front, that my job search is over, and now hubby and I can plan our road trip for next month to relax, commemorate our hard work this year, and celebrate our accomplishments.
