My name is Hannah Henderson, and I am a travel writer, foodie and photographer based in France. I write travel related content, promote brands and destinations – usually with a foodie bias; and I hope that this inspires others to travel. I travel independently often, but also work with tourism boards, PR companies, and small businesses to provide destination marketing.
Our USA foodie travels have taken us to the southern states for a barbecue tour, to New York where we played food bingo, and to Georgia to eat Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. I don’t like eating it at breakfast-time mind you, so diners that serve it all day long are a marvellous invention. A tradition on our USA foodie travels is to visit a diner and order all the dishes we don’t usually see on UK / Europe menus. Diversity makes USA foodie travels some of the best in the world.
The best things to do in Coney IslandHarking back to the golden days of Victorian seaside holidays in the 1880s, when circus ‘freak’ shows were all the rage; the more politically correct Coney Island Circus Sideshow was part of the area renaissance in the 1980s. Add a Nathan’s hotdog to your game of food bingo in New York!Another must is a visit to Paul’s Daughter – one of the oldest establishments on the boardwalk. A day trip to Coney Island from New YorkOn the day we visited, the boardwalk was heaving with families, free spirits, and jaunty beach police in little electric cars. Don’t go expecting a quiet seaside sojourn, go with a hunger for a dose of crazy and an appetite for a famous Nathan’s hotdog!Only in New York for a short time?
From WWII history in Normandy, to walled port towns and wild beaches, there is a lot of diversity on this coast. A perfect day in Honfleur would include a visit to the Notre-Dame de Grace chapel, a leisurely stroll through the public gardens and The Naturospace on your way to Butin Beach. Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach. The Atlantic coast of France is a little more wild, rustic and windy than the Mediterranean coast, but with that comes bunches of character and history.
We decided to play a game of ‘food bingo’ in New York – ticking off as many famous foods as we could during our 4 days in NYC.What ended up on our food bingo list? Delicious!New York City food bingo wouldn’t be the same without grabbing a warm knish filled with mustard, and chomping it on a street corner as you wait for the crossing signal. New York food bingo level up!We had been partying down in the Lower East Side (one of my favourite parts of Manhattan), and post a few too many birthday cocktails found ourselves in need of a midnight snack. Playing food bingo will have you chasing down bucket list foods, talking to locals for where to find the best of the best, and having fun on your next trip!Take in my Foodie Travels series for more delectable reading! All photos & content © Hannah Henderson and may not be used without permission (sharing this blog post is fine, though!).
