Spotify Podcasts: Not Worth the Investment?

Citi analysts recently downgraded Spotify’s stock because the “cadence” of 3Q20’s Premium additions and app download data didn’t show “any material benefit” from podcasts investments that began in 2019. According to analyst Jason Bazinet, Citi’s fear “is that if podcasting doesn’t provide a way for Spotify to shift away from music label dependence, the Street may reassess the underlying value of the business. These investments include the millions spent on exclusive content rights, such as The Joe Rogan Experience (>$100 million), as well as purchasing already popular podcast networks and creation platforms, like Gimlet Media ($230 million), Parcast ($56 million) and the self-publishing podcast platform Anchor ($235 million). As brands and advertisers continue to strategize about where podcast content fits in their portfolios, let’s consider potential reasons why Spotify’s strategy hasn’t paid off—and what that means for 2021 and beyond.

2021 Super Bowl Ads: Indicative of the Year to Come?

There’s been a dramatic shift in priorities throughout the country since Super Bowl 2020, and that “new normal” includes millions without work, constant worry about the health of loved ones and remembering the ones we’ve lost. This shift was apparent with brands like Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Budweiser, who decided to put their advertising funds toward COVID- relief instead of the Super Bowl this year. With that background on this year’s Super Bowl ads, here’s Dixon Schwab’s consensus on a few of the most popular from 2021: Given the challenges facing our nation, hopefulness was a message that really resonated for me. There were three standouts for me last night: the Bruce Springsteen Jeep ad, the Will Ferrell ad and the Toyota adopted Olympian ad.

Myers-Briggs at work: how to value your coworkers even more

When we pause to understand others’ preferences, we have a chance to learn how our teammates are energized, the kind of information they notice, how they make decisions and how they organize their world. You’ll also find all of our team members’ MBTIs on our agency phone list and other internal documents, so you can set the stage for a great conversation before they even pick up the phone. Again, the goal is to press pause for just a moment and think about how to best reach someone so you can collaborate most effectively. So we did just that, using a version of the traditional MBTI assessment that allows us to think of Dixon Schwabl as a person, assigning similar traits and preferences to our organization.

Robinhood's GameStop Debacle: A Cautionary PR Tale

So while the public was buying, they waited anxiously for everything to come crashing back down to earth, in hopes of making their big-wig hedge funds a ton of “tendies” (chicken tenders/money). WallStreetBets found out about these short sellers, pulled a capital flex and drove the price up to nearly $500 in the biggest game of financial chicken in recent memory. Normal people were making a ton of money betting on GameStop. Hedge funds were losing a ton of money (BILLION$) betting against GameStop.
