For those of you that have been reading our blog, followed us on social media, or just heard us drone on and on about this, you have probably read about our quest to build our own RV camper. We then started looking at the idea of microvan campers such as the Ford Transit Connect and the Ram Promaster City. We started scouring Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and RV Trader to find something (in our set $3k budget) that we could really put our mark on and turn into something beautiful. Our luck would shine on a Sunday morning when we found a 5×8 enclosed utility trailer on Facebook Marketplace that already had a side door and the back door were barn doors that we thought we could do a lot since the kitchen was going in the back.
I had heard about the Sun Stories art installation from Jessy Nite that features words and poems suspended above and then cast a beautiful image on that ground when the sun shines through. There were words like “SERENITY” and “PARADISE,” which strung together formed poetry that created a whole different experience than just reading words on paper. It was also the perfect spot to test different camera angles and play around with different lenses on the camera. The buildings in Coral Gables around Giralda Ave were amazing displays of different types of architecture.

It does get pretty technical about calculating heat loss and R values, but it is pretty easy to follow along and was some great information to know when looking at the different materials. We liked this video since talked about using greener materials to handle the insulation (we are not sure these can be found in the U. S., but it is worth a look) and used Reflectix (the silvery bubble wrapped material) as a vapor barrier (the video didn’t really use the word vapor barrier, but it was used as the final step and does serve as a vapor barrier). Since some vans might have areas that are not accessible to stuff pieces of insulation, this video covered using a spray expanding foam in those areas. The video goes through using the polyiso foam boards to insulate the ceiling and walls and uses the spray foam to adhere it to the ceiling.
