And sharing our words, through a website and anthologies and even a film, will hopefully allow others to hear our sweet peel. Charlotte Matthews is a poet and professor at the University of Virginia, and co-created Whistle Words in early 2017.
Eventually, after running more tests I was finally confirmed with a diagnosis of Triple Negative Breast Cancer with three positive lymph nodes. A couple of years later, once I began feeling better, I decided to dedicate myself to learning how to tattoo areolas for my sister survivors. Then in 2014, I visited Texas for a breast cancer retreat where I was able to give fellow “sisters” their areolas back through my tattooing. Now, for the past four years, I have continually done this for many other survivors, and also teaching art classes so other artists can create proper 3D areolas tattoos.
