The exhibition opens on Dec 13th and will continue through Jan 9, 2019, with an opening reception Wednesday, Dec 12th, from 6 –9 pm. Sean will display 13 photographs from an ongoing series that documents architectural forms and details found throughout the city. By photographing structures devoid of surrounding context, and dislocating buildings from their place, he creates a city that has been abstracted and idealized. Sean mixes his enthusiasm for graphic design and documentary photography, producing photographic studies of form, light, and pattern through vignettes of architectural details.
Casefile001 attempts to establish a visual aesthetic for a larger web-based project that considers surveillance and its effect on architecture throughout New York City. Many recognize the ubiquitous icon spread throughout their city, raised high, secured firmly to a wall or pole above their heads. This project uses the surveillance infrastructure of New York City to create a set of photographs around this dystopian like narrative. Inspired by the aesthetics of film noir, German expressionist cinema, brutalism, and graphic novels, this series aims to increase awareness of public surveillance programs that affect our lives as contemporary citizens.
