We are grateful for our lavender harvest this year, not because of its bountiful yield as in some years, but because of Mother Nature’s grace and the Team who helped make the best of daunting conditions. Significant rainfall throughout much of the Summer complicated the task of harvesting because cutting lavender stems requires sunny conditions to insure that the bud and flowers will dry properly in our Carriage House. So, the net effect of our weather this Summer meant that the entire Lavender Green Team was on perpetual stand-by. With the thoughtful guidance of this Summer’s great Team Leader, Paige, the Team rallied like the Minute Men from the American Revolution, cutting an amazing number of stems in very restricted time-lines.
Choose fresh princess pine wreaths, decorative swags, garlands, centerpieces, tree ornaments, snowflakes and Gingerbread themed yard art to design your home for the holidays. Unique Hand-painted skates, windows, bowls, tinware, crocks, candles, lamps along with hand-crafted wooden yard games and fine art, etched glass, pottery and textiles are a small list of the wonderful treasures to be discovered. Pamper yourself with hand-made soaps, lotions, lip balms, wellness gifts, spa wraps and scents for a festive holiday season or to fill up those Christmas stockings. Children are welcome and can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus Friday evening in the Children’s park, or get their picture taken with Santa all weekend.
There is nothing we like better than to share our passion for lavender with friends. This summer we’ve planned some special lavender lover events… Join us for a “Tour of the Farm” on Sunday, July 8th from 1 – 3pm. We’ll share our knowledge of the healing art of lavender, with an opportunity to taste lavender food and drinks, make a trip to the field, learn tips on growing and harvesting this delicate but hardy plant and give special demonstrations from our product line. Come join us, Sunday, August 19th at 1pm for a “Lavender Family Picnic” with scrumptious lavender inspired recipes.
Despite being covered with a 4-inch layer of small, round sandstone pebbles the deteriorating plastic weed mat soon incurred holes and splits which provided opportunities for the century-old field grass lying dormant beneath to emerge. Hula Hoe discovered what I can only describe as the single most efficient, effective weeding tool which should be de rigueur for every gardening arsenal. It is made in the United States and, building on the design theory of the Hula Hoe, it features a triangular shaped cutting blade that, when placed flat on the ground, slices cleanly through soil and gravel at far less than half the effort required by the Hula Hoe. It is called the Basic Garden Tool by its creator and manufacturer, and can be used as a hoe, weed, shovel, edger, pitch fork and rake among other tasks.
