Taking Better Bag Photos: Lighting

The sun gives off a warm glow from around 12 noon onwards all the way to sunset, so the best time of day to take photos with natural light is around 9am to 11am in the morning. If you were to photograph it at night in your sewing room you would notice a yellow/orange glow to your photos and trust me, when you’re trying to sell the item the customer won’t be interested if the colours aren't anywhere near the true fabric colour. The only other thing I do advise is if your photos need some colour correction you can add a colour overlay with most editing software and apps. The key thing to remember is just add a little, if needed, to colour correct a photo.

Fusible Vinyl Comparison

To be compared are Pellon Vinyl Fuse - £7.22 for 15” x 2yd Buy from Amazon.co.uk Heat n Bond Iron on Vinyl - £5.45 for 17” x 1yd Buy from SewHot.co.uk Vilene Lamifix - £5.99 for 18” x 1m Buy from Minerva Crafts Heat n Bond Iron on Vinyl – Lay the backing paper on top of the vinyl covered fabric, grid side up and press on medium heat with no steam for 8 seconds, covering the entire surface. The Heat n Bond was easy to fuse, with both the iron and the steam press (with no steam), but the press resulted in a smoother finish. A quick dry press helped this to re-set. Pellon Vinyl Fuse on left, Heat n Bond in centre, Vilene Lamifix on right Top stitching the laminated fabrics I used my Janome MC6600P to top stitch the laminated fabrics.

Introducing the Machine Bag {Tester Photos}

Christine made a few edits to her pattern adding some fun hardware and a very clever fold up pocket to hold her machine needles. Oh look, it's toddler approved ;) Sandie added some fun quilting to the base on her machine Bag and used narrow red piping around the main panels. Jayne also wowed me with her pattern matching across the zip, it's perfect, and this fabric print is spot on for a machine bag! If you want to make your own Machine bag, the pattern is available to buy now in my store, or as part of the Retreat Pattern Bundle.
