I started working towards strength & physique goals back in 2011. The list of things exercise has done for me is too long, including happiness, independence, femininity, & health.โฃ โฃ Understandably, not working out for so long reversed some of those things for me. While it felt like betrayal, for my mind & body to refuse consistent physical activity, Iโm glad that hiatus happened. ๐คญโฃ โฃ Lifting 2011-2017 was not all ๐ & ๐ฆ. A number of goals were made & met out of self-hatred & insecurities. It really took 3 years, hitting my highest weight, getting some health-scaries, & a lot of mental reflection to achieve a positive mindset change towards my โWHYโ for working out & eating well.โฃ โฃ Joining a strength-focused gym & community, rather than a commercial gym, is what let me finally pivot back into fitness for good. While trying to correct some back rounding recently, I accidentally conditioned myself into a starting position that more resembles a snatch or clean start position. Iโm going to keep working on my optimal start position by raising my hips. I donโt want to be squatting my deadlift lol.โฃ 2๏ธโฃ With that ๐, Iโll also get my knees more out of the way to keep the bar positions over my feet more.โฃ 3๏ธโฃ I got called out for deadlifting in runners. ๐คญ I want to put myself as close to the floor as I can. Iโll start training in my vans. I noticed some body positive + fitness bloggers with username's including the word โfat.โ Names like fit fat and X, fat to fit, etc. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ Majority of these girls who call themselves both fat + fit end up having figures that: ๐ have defined upper ab lines/still can see ribcage ๐ need to lean over or sit in order to show rolls ๐ need to jump in dances in order to show jiggle ๐ fit the standard unsupportive S, M, or L bralette โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ Girl, if this is what you and society consider โfat,โ we have a problem. ๐คจ But that definition rant is for another time. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ Unfortunately, thereโs still a standard that larger women are being held to in order to be considered a โbeautiful or acceptable fat woman.โ Look at top influential โbody-positiveโ bloggers and curvy brands' catalogs, youโll rarely find an exceedingly popular curvy woman that doesnโt have the perfect pear shape. Still small enough up top to fit standard bras, blouses, and swim tops so brands donโt need to tailor the most difficult part of the body... But round enough at the bottom to fit into stretchy jeans/leggings that appeals to todayโs obsession with larger butts. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ I want all women to know that no matter where you โhold it,โ you are beautiful. You donโt need to have obvious toned body parts to be considered fit. Now that Iโve got some plates, Iโve been needing to retrain myself a lot of things that I learned within the quick 2 months time before my scheduled first meet. Here Iโm retraining myself to pull shoulders back and engage my lats before pulling. This significantly helps me from rounding my back. After watching this back, I think Iโm going to have to try again with putting my hips down first, then engage lats. ๐ง Iโve also been working on double over hand grip. Iโm not worried about never mix gripping for the rest of my powerlifting career but I do want to improve it in order to improve Olympic moves. Weโre late to the party but weโre finally building up a home gym! ๐ช . Iโll admit that I have only done 1 single body weight workout since gyms closed. I eventually figured out the reason why I couldnโt get into it. . My small apartment is my โsafe placeโ where I go relax, lounge, and chill. We use every inch of what we have. Pushing 1 couch out of the way wasnโt enough to get me out of the lounge zone. Not to mention that simple moves like jumping jacks would piss of our neighbors downstairs. . So weโre sacrificing some garage space and bought what we could find on the market currently that wouldnโt hurt our wallets. . Until we can find a normal priced power rack, Iโll be here getting really good at Olympic moves and one legged anything. Less than 2 weeks out from my first meet and the Coronavirus is in full swing. ๐ฌUnfortunately, I had to tell a few friends that wanted to come and support me that spectators are no longer allowed. โน๏ธ . Honestly Iโm not too upset about it. Itโs going to be an amazing accomplishment regardless of an audience or not. Itโs going to be streamed online and that actually is going to give my family thatโs in a different state the opportunity to watch now. . Weโre tapering now for the meet. I love how #ChadBot finally gives me variety in my linear periodization during my last peak week, lol. Today we did block pulls at RPE 7. Felt amazing. .
