I planned on breezing through en route to Bryce Canyon National Park, but we managed to suss out some neat things; from art to the great outdoors. just passing by Cedar City on a Utah road trip, this is a great place to stop and stretch your legs as it’s about a 45-minute self-guided walking tour through the Southern Utah University campus. and there’s not a ton of elevation change, but it’s definitely a challenging slot canyon hike. The high elevation of the surrounding Dixie National Forest is definitely a neat place to check out and escape the summer heat of Southern Utah For a bit of a history lesson, head to this small state park museum on Cedar City’s Main Street.
Some of the best Park City Main Street restaurants that I’ve yet try include Yuki Yama Sushi, Shabu, Fletcher’s, Courchevel, Chimayo, Grappa, Handle, 710 Bodega, and Prime Steakhouse and Piano Bar. * Red Banjo Pizza Parlour – Park City’s oldest business has been serving pizza on Main Street longer than the town has had ski lifts! Since it’s not exactly on Main Street, you won’t have the crowds or quite the inflated prices, and there are still some great places to eat. Highly recommended Prospector and Snow Creek-area restaurants I still need to try include Twisted Fern, Five Seeds, Alberto’s, Adolph’s, Windy Ridge Cafe, and Grub Steak.
You may not think you need boots for your dog, but even if you don’t hike in the winter, or walk your dog on hot surfaces, dog boots are an important part of any hiking kit. Finding dog boots for hiking that stay on can be a real challenge but after a lot of trial and error, in winter and summer, we’ve found what I believe are the best dog hiking boots. I often use Musher’s Secret wax to keep the snow from balling up in Bailey’s paws, but boots add another layer of protection. So we use our Ultra Paws dog boots for even our short mid-day walk when it’s super hot out.
On my most recent Utah road trip, I drove from Bryce Canyon to Capitol Reef. Whether you drive from Bryce Canyon to Capitol Reef or from Capitol Reef to Bryce Canyon, you absolutely must take Highway 12. This National Historic Site has been hosting travelers for over 100 years, longer than Bryce Canyon has been part of the National Park System. Although this state park is not along the route from Capitol Reef to Bryce Canyon, it’s close enough to Capitol Reef that you should make the extra trip.
