Finding a dress that fits is a challenge Ashton faces every time she goes shopping. She loved the big sleeves, and quickly settled on this amazing brocade from Mood Fabrics. If you ask me for big sleeves, I’m gonna give you big sleeves! The brocade drapes into large cones away from the body, making it a great material for a tailored dress like this one.
The tunic is lined in Bemberg rayon, a very soft and delicious lining fabric that is surprisingly sold at JoAnn Fabrics. I felt confident with the measurements to cut directly into her fabric, carefully placing the blue motif. The dress I designed for her also had requests for a certain kind of bodice, while the skirt she wanted it to somehow reflect the culture it came from. Knowing I had exactly the fabric I had in hand, I wanted to give her a nice, full skirt with an element that would remind her of a sari.
You might remember the Beatles costumes I made last summer. Well, Tara, the kids’ mom, contacted me again but this time she wanted something for herself
I don’t cater to prom clients but I couldn’t say no to a custom bustier…not with my corsetry experience. After the first fitting, with all the pinning of excess material, I redesigned the shape of the bra cups to better fit Molly. Each piece of the bustier had a layer of cotton and a black mesh flat-lined to the satin. Boning channels were done in black as well as the binding to connect it with the black suit Molly would be wearing.
