This weekend, we left a huge piece of our heart in New York.🏙️ It’s always bittersweet watching them spread their wings. 🥹 And this one? She’s now flown over 1,300 miles away. TBH, we always knew she’d be the one to fly the furthest. She’s always had that “go-getter” attitude and has to keep moving. Not to mention, she’s the best conversationalist and most extroverted child we have. Last Saturday, my saint of a husband and I celebrated 33 years together! ❤️ 33 years since our “kissing day” (as Colby calls it). The day of our first kiss and the day we officially began dating. 6.1.1991 Y’all! It’s been quite a ride. Through the best and worst of times, he’s been my rock. Last week, when my mental health took a nosedive (see last post), he booked a last-minute cruise for just the two of us.🛳️ He knew we both needed a mental reset. I’m so incredibly grateful for his companionship and the way he knows me better than I know myself. Nothing like the last minute! *Literally* 😅 I’ve been wanting to share something for #MentalHealthMonth, but finding the right words has been tough. It’s ironic, really. The medicine that’s supposed to help me feel better often leaves me struggling to write. Writing has always been my therapy. I often tell @doddblog how many great writers have faced mental health challenges too. My meds bring some clarity, yet I still feel scattered. My diagnosis? Major Depressive Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and Anxiety. I’ve thought about getting evaluated for Autism/ADD, but right now, it feels like just another label. I know my quirks and idiosyncrasies. They’re part of who I am, and I don’t see that changing much. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it’s the depression that really gets me. I can tell when I’m slipping. Sometimes, Colby notices before I do. And all.the.rain. ⛈️ It’s so gloomy and only makes my depression worse. I n•e•e•d sunshine! ☀️ So, I’m trying to pull myself out of it again. My kids (and grandkids) keep me going. If you’ve messaged or texted me and I haven’t responded, please know I appreciate you checking in. I just don’t have the energy to reply, or I forget, and then I get anxious about sending a late response. It’s a never-ending cycle in my head.🫣 But this is what mental health looks like for me. And it’s why treating our mental health like our physical health is so important.
